then installed MT4, and which runs, and completes "strategy testing".
MetaEditor crashes on startup, maybe I need to install some more MS Runtime support?

Umm...one thing here I see ... I need ask why you installed
IE7 ? The reason for my question, is that when I check over at
wineHQ on this app, it is mentioned that Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributable 6.0 is required, but there's no suggestion that
IE7 need be part of the installation...see;

It might be that you don't need IE7 at all -- in fact, including IE7
may indeed be the problem. I would retry the operation (delete bottle,
start anew) and just install the visual c++ 6.0 runtime & MT4 and see
how it goes -- post back here and let me know how that pans-out...
