The Metatrader 4 build 224 (15.05.2009) works in a CrossOver 7.1.2 😏.
I have just tried to install MT4 on my MacPro using Crossover 8. The installer hung towards the end of the process at:
C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4\mailbox\1190736044.english
I also tried using an older build of MT4 (I believe it was build 218), that used to work in Crossover 7. Did you do anything special to get your particular build to work?

had the same problem. You have to install IE 6.0 first (into the same bottle), then install Metatrader again.
Then the installation works.
Which does not mean the application works afterwards... 😉
Metatrader's stupid "security"-system prevents it from working inside Crossover...
Back to VMWare...

Thanks for the tip to install IE 6.0 first! After that, you can get MT4 to run by copying the mfc42.dll to the windows/system32 directory. This can be done by doing the Crossover Install Program wizard, highlight "Show all" and install the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 6.0" package.
It also helps to put a wingding.ttf in the windows/fonts directory.
Last tip, in order to edit a value on an indicator you've put on a chart, push F2.
It works great for me now, only thing is the icons at the top are faded, but I am 100% functional right now. Even MetaEditor works.

That's as far as I got, as well. I found that after cancelling the installation in the mT4 screen and in Crossover, I could launch MT4 by using Run Command, and choosing the "terminal.exe" file. It took several seconds to finally launch, and I didn't test it very much, but it looks like the bulk of the program is installed and can function to some degree.
Saving the command to the programs menu didn't work, though :/ For reasons I haven't figured out yet it needs to be launched via Run Command.
--edit--
for the sake of clarity, this is exactly what I did:
-Install Internet Explorer 6.0 into a new bottle from Crossover's Install Software menu
-Then, install Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 package into the same bottle as Internet Explorer 6.0. (You'll find the C++ package in Crossover's Install Software>Runtime Support Components menu)
-to install MT4, choose "Other Application" in Crossover's Install Software menu, then choose your MetaTrader4 installer .exe file that you've downloaded as the installer source, and lastly choose that same bottle with IE6 as the destination and click "install"
the MT4 installer will hang while copying a "*.english" file. Cancel the installation.
to launch MT4, go to Crossover's Programs>Run Command menu, select the bottle you've been working with, and then browse to the "terminal.exe" file inside. Press "run" to launch the program.
I wasn't able to successfully create a Program Launcher for reasons I haven't entirely determined. I also didn't test MT4 very much, but it seemed to be working fine wrt basic menu functions and the like.
This is a load of **! Most of us dumb * have no idea about code and **. We just want to download Metatrader and have the thing work. This is ***. I'm going back to FreeStockCharts. *** Metatrader.
Edit by Don: Yes, I can understand you're upset, but please don't vent your anger
like that in these forums ; there are women and children aboard, not to mention males
of the species who also do not appreciate such outbursts of 'colorful' language.
If your are a registered Crossover user with a current support license, please enter
a support ticket on the issue or email info@codeweavers.com about same (without the
'colorful' words in question =), and perhaps they maybe able to further advise you.
Cheers!
also, please keep in mind that Metatrader is not our product - we make Crossover, which allows you to run MetaTrader on your Mac or Linux. If you find MetaTrader itself to be a distasteful product, please direct your comments to the designers of MetaTrader.
All I get is the oreans.vxd driver error. I don't have any issues with the installation.
Someone should change the bronze award to not working.
I just installed from the CrossTie file and was able to successfully launch and run the program, no oreans.vxd error in sight. How are you going about installing MT4?
your gays have done a great job.
but I have one question: how can I choose my broker? Is that must be forex.com like which the installing shows?
