CrossOver 16.2.0 on Linux Mint 18.1 performance feedback

Good Day,

Installed CrossOver 16.2.0 in Linux Mint 18.1, on a Lenovo Y500 laptop (i7-3630QM, Nvidia GT750m gpu with Nvidia driver, 16Gb RAM). Installation went smoothly, and the game started no problems other than receiving the error that it does not recognize my graphics card. The game starts minimized for some reason, but this may be a setting somewhere that I haven't yet found. On Steam, some menu relics remained in the window.

I disabled VOIP and set graphics level to Low, then ran through a few testing ground sessions:

  • Loading screens took a bit longer, but nothing too bad
  • Session would start with choppy video, then smoothed out.
  • After bumping graphics levels up to Medium for some of the settings, I didn't see any degradation in performance.

Set the graphics settings back down to Low, entered into a PUG, and experienced the following:

  • Ping is not affected at all
  • I did not experience any "late to the game" issues - I always entered with the group
  • CPU temperatures spiked to 97*
  • Graphics were quite choppy. It was difficult to aim at moving targets, and when using a weapon with a power up delay (Gauss), could barely land a hit even at mid distance
  • Had a crash during the game exit screen (when it asks you to confirm if you want to leave MWO) - had to do a hard shutdown.

Generally, the game is not playable on my hardware. It could be that under Linux Mint and CrossOver, the CPU requirements increase substantially. From what I've read MWO is a CPU, rather than GPU, intensive game. It ran without issues under Win10 on the same laptop at High graphics levels. I was quite surprised at the core temperatures I saw.
