I just tried to install a trial version of MathType 5.2. However when I tried to install it into CXOffice 3.0.1 using the "install unsupported programs" option, I had trouble. The setup began, but then I got a series of messages of the type
File C: \\dev\\work\\MathType\\Windows\\Setup\\verscopy.cpp
Line #400
Assert (MoveFileA (source Rename, target Rename));
It then instructed me to contact dessci.com.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can get this to load? I have been using MathType for many years (although version 4) on my laptop, and I would love to get it onto my linux box.
Just tried the install again under 3.0.1 and it installed without a hitch. Are you installing from the MathType52Installer.exe downloadable from the MathType website? If so, the only other thing I can think of is that I had already installed Office XP and maybe some files were installed that the MathType install needs. Try using the CrossOver Installer to install DCOM95 (I think it will grab the files from over the web) or maybe Internet Explorer first to see if there are some native Windows files that MathType is looking for.
Thank you. I reinstalled MathType 5.0, which is what I have (I had forgotten that I had updated from 4.0 a few years ago). It works standalone, and when I started Word, Word asked whether I wanted to install it. I said yes and the MathType icons appeared on the toolbar. However I when I started PowerPoint, I didn't get such a question. In Tools/addins, the MathType addin is listed and checked, but I don't know how to get the icons added. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
Try unchecking the Tools/Add-ins MathType Add-in selection. Then re-check it. I might have also pressed the load and unload buttons. This made the toolbar icon for MathType reappear on the toolbar, but the picture was missing (placing the mounse cursor over the "empty" space would identify it as "Add MathType Equation".
Thanks. I did find that when I held the cursor over many areas of the toolbar, although nothing was visible, text appeared saying that it was insert MathType equation. However clicking the mouse did nothing. Also when I went into Add or Remove buttons/standard, I saw many Insert MathType Equation boxes checked, but they are all in faint type, and when I move the cursor over them, they don't become highlighted. So I suspect there is no code there.
I am guessing that I have to move some MathType file to a new area. In
cxoffice/cxwin/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/MathType/
there are a few files, in particular
MathType Commands 5 For Word.dot
and
MathType AddIn (PowerPoint 2002).ppa.
I found that the former is now in
cxoffice/cxwin/.cxoffice/dotwine/fandows/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office10/Startup
so I put the latter there as well. When I wasn't successful, I moved it instead to
cxoffice/cxwin/.cxoffice/dotwine/fakedows/Application Data/Microsoft/AddIns
but stil no luck. Can you see what MathType file for addins is in what area when you load it in?
