Typically Word.dot (normal.dot) are the 'settings, etc' files for Office applications. If MathType 5.2 is installed in the same bottle as Office 2007 it 'should' be able to find the 'word.dot' file. If not, there are numerous ways you can fix this...

Sadly, Mathtype 5.2 does not support Office 2007, even under a full Windows installation. You'd have to invest in Mathtype > 6.x to offer that functionality since Office 2007 is significantly different than previous versions. However, if you intend on running entirely from Crossover, don't bother spending the money on Mathtype 6.x. The only thing you'll accomplish is crash the Office 2007 bottle and it won't work again until you uninstall Mathtype. It is rather unfortunate really.
For technical writing applications, Crossover is really not the way to go. If all you want to do is write a short letter with no images or equations I'm sure it's great. If you really feel that you need Mathtype to do your job, and you're hell bent on running under Linux, my advice to you is learn latex and dump office altogether. Crossover is nowhere near where it needs to be to satisfy the demands of technical writers, which rely heavily on equation editors and, for press purposes, EPS images. These are currently not supported under crossover Office 2007. In fact, EPS images will also make Crossover word crash each and every time, whether you're viewing or inserting them in your document.
Learn Latex! If you really like the graphical interface, texmaker is free and works on linux, windows, and Macs.
