Linux CXG 9.0.0beta4 - Mass Effect updated mouse patches

Just got the new cx demo. Mass Effect still requires mouse patches.

dinput patch no longer works so here's a new one along with the same old winex11 patch uploaded again.
dinput.dll[unreal_engine+wine-1.1.42].diff
winex11.drv.diff

I'm not a software person but it looks right to me.
Tested all ok, although I did notice I had to select hardware mouse in Mass Effect settings or the mouse would disappear.
Can't remember if it was like this before haven't used it since last demo of xover.

Here are binaries compiled on Fedora 12 X86_64 for 32bit wine-1.1.42
dinput.dll
winex11.drv

Edit: For Crossover 9 you need to put user32.dll from wine source in binaries folder as well
user32.dll

Whack em in your Mass Effect/Binaries/ folder and your good to go.

just found there is something different about the mouse in this version. It has disappeared in Star Wars KOTOR. It still works just no cursor. Oddly enough in KOTOR settings if i turn off hardware mouse i get a mouse pointer but it does all weird things like escaping the window.

I just came out of crossover demo, tried both 8.1.4 and beta for 9.

I tried a fresh install of Mass Effect 1 from a Retail DVD in

9.0.0.beta4.
Install worked.
Mass Effect Launcher works.
Game won't load/run.

8.1.4 works great for me though, installs and runs...

Crossover x64
Mint 8 x64

Strange works fine for me on 32 bit though.

Just got beta 7 still appears to be running wine 1.1.42 but if i try to use the winex11.drv from winehq its crashes on startup now. Mouse cursor in mass effect is now there weather your using hardware mouse or not.

KOTOR is playable again, cursor is stuck as os cursor ie no change in cursor when you move over boxes but really who cares.

But mass effect unplayable. I noticed the winex11.drv i compiled is around 2mb where as the one that comes with crossover is like 600k.
Is it heavily modified for cxgames??

Looks like they are still fiddling before release of CXG9. Hope all is well by then.

Please file this in the beta reporting center. That's the best way to be sure it's noticed before release.

Just got crossover 9 still same issue. I read on winehq i think about the mouse cursor regression with KOTOR. Anyway it was related to user32.dll so i took a wild stab and guessed user32 had been changed.

Built user32.dll from wine 1.1.42 source here it is
user32.dll

Stuck it in drive_c/Program Files/Mass Effect/Binaries folder along with modified dinput.dll and winex11.dll

Runs fine except you need to set Hardware Mouse in game settings to Yes. No errors. Froze once when I was playing then froze when i finished the game at the end credits. (i played for about half hour)

Brett if you've got time could you try on 64bit?? And possibly upload modified dlls??

Cheers.

Can confirm that:

a) Mass Effect still doesn't work in 9.0.0.
b) It can be made to work by adding the three binaries.
c) Hardware Mouse must be set to Yes.

Should we create a bug report?

(Xubuntu 9.10, amd64, GeForce 9500 GT)

Hi,

No...that's not so much a bug as it is more of a 'solution' as such.
For an unsupported app/game of bronze medal ranking, this is more or
less 'expected behavior' all told - sometimes there are extra measures,
such as these, required to get a program running. Such information is
more the fodder for a Tip&Trick on how to get it running with CXG{version){platform-OS-version}
and mention your hardware specs in the tip&trick bodytext for good measure.

If it were a regression on the other hand..in this case, a work around
no longer fixed things and the program was relegated to 'known not to work',
then you could submit a support ticket on the issue (or email info@codeweavers.com)
to let them know about such.

Cheers!
