Lotus Notes 6.5.2 now available.

The Notes 6.5.2 update can be downloaded here : http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/search.jsp?S_TACT=104AH+W42&S_CMP=&s=&status=Active&sr=1&cat=&k=ALL&dt=SOFTWARE+UPDATE&q=Notes+client+6.5.2&pf=&x=0&y=0&sb=n&sr=1&S_TACT=104AH+W42&S_CMP=&s=
Please note cxsetup will report an error for a NEW install of a full 6.5.2 client. The upgrade patch should work, but I have not yet tested the patch installer.

I'm trying to update a 6.0.3 installation to 6.0.4 which I guess should behave similarly to the 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 process you describe. This isn't working. Can you be more explicit about what you mean by;

The upgrade patch should work, but I have not yet tested the patch installer.

If I run the 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 update program ("c56t9na.exe") ~/cxoffice/bin/wine, it runs the installshield wizard but then creates a dialog with the following text;

An error occurred while downloading the file http://www.installengine.com/Msiengine20/InstmsiA.exe. What would you like to do? With "cancel" and "retry" buttons.

I have configured the http proxy on the cxsetup "advanced configuration settings" page. The proxy concerned is on a system where I have access to the logs and I can confirm that no attempt is made to fetch the file concerned.

Running wine with WINEDEBUG set to "warn+all", I see the following which is probably relevant;

warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"InstmsiA.exe" not found in /home/jon/.cxoffice/dotwine/dosdevices/c:/Windows/Temp/_isc3be
warn:ntdll:NtQueryFullAttributesFile L"\\??\\C:\\Windows\\Temp\\_isc3be\\InstmsiA.exe" not found (c0000034)

I really don't want to run the IBM update program on the original 6.0.3 Windows installation because that is guaranteed to get me in trouble with my corporate IT people.

How can I upgrade 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 if the patch installer won't work?

Thanks

I'm thinking the problem is you need MSI from Microsoft, install it first, then install/run the
patch. The 4.2beta is on it's way soon and I'll be re-testing ALL the notes client in the
compatibility database (6.0.4+, 5.0.11+, and 6.5.2+) and hope to test the updates from
6.0.3->6.0.4 and 6.5.1->6.5.2->6.5,3. The link for MSI is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&displaylang=en

Please respond here if it does or doesn't work; also which version of cxoffice are you using?

Thanks for the really quick response. MSI installed fine and now the problem has moved. The update denies the original Notes 6.0.3 is installed. It generates the following message;

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

In case it helps, the immediately previous warning is the following;

warn:storage:StgStreamImpl_Read read 284 instead of the required 1024 bytes !

This is with the update program in the same directory as notes.exe and running the update in that directory.

I'm using a brand new copy of cxoffice 4.1, purchased specially so I can run Notes.

OK, I need some info to be able to reproduce the error, you are using cx4.1, so I need to
know the following: Starting version of Notes (6.0.3 right?), is it client only? or full
(admin/client/designer), and which version of the patch are you installing? 6.0.x -> 6.0.4?
or 6.0.3->6.0.4 and if you could do an MD5SUM on the patch file so I make sure I get the
right one. Thanks

I believe what I'm starting is the Notes client only.

I'm told by the corporate IT people that the version of notes is 6.0.3 and if I start it (on a different machine) using the Feb 2005 wine snapshot, it prints 6.0.3 (September 26 2003) in the banner page before breaking with a bright red box saying "Sorry, an uncorrectable error has occurred. LookupHandle: null handle".

The upgrade is 6.0.3->6.0.4. Here are some md5sums

86b698a6b103adaf73877e31155c8f73 c56t9na.exe
44b4a8dc0b60f939d1d8137cccdbdc68 notes.exe

I don't know if it's significant but if I start Notes 6.0.3 under cxoffice on the same machine as where the upgrade fails, it breaks earlier than the Feb 2005 snapshot with the following error;

ERROR (44): unable to open file 'ntdll.dll' - (2) File not found

thanks, working on it now, i'll let you know when I get some where.

OK, use the package from the following URL:

http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/search.jsp?S_TACT=104AH+W42&S_CMP=&status=Active&sr=1&cat=&k=ALL&b=&pn=&pid=&rs=&dt=SOFTWARE+UPDATE&q=Notes+Client+6.0.4&x=0&y=0

to upgrade to 6.0.4, you will need to register (put junk in unless you want to use the id again), ignore all the "Beta and Trial" stuff it's a REAL update from 6.0.x to 6.0.4. I got this to work.

Umm. The package I got from that URL is the exact same one as the one I had before.

you need the 6.0.x to 6.0.4 not the 6.0.3 to 6.0.4, based on the MD5SUM you gave me you downloaded the 0.3->0.4 upgrade.

Thank you anonymous - it certainly got further with the different upgrade. A "preparing to install" window appears transiently and then the following message is displayed;

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Sorry about the anonymous post, I forgot to login. This is starting to sound
like a distro releated issue. Which distro are you using? I tested this on a
RHEL 3.0 w/updates on Friday and got it to work well. Also give me any other
information you might think would be relevant, ie, which version of IE do you
have installed, and do you have any other software installed?

I'm using suse 9.0. I don't have any version of IE installed.

With the previous patch, I completely removed cxoffice & re-installed it from scratch and got the same results.

With this patch, I've just done the same with interesting results. If I just install cxoffice, copy c:\application_data\notes and c:\Program Files\Notes over from the windows partion, make them writable & then run the patch, I get a dialog box saying "you must have a version of Notes 6 installed to apply an upgrade". This having copied the patch file into the same directory as notes.exe and running it in that directory.

Would the "full" Notes installer setup some registry entries which aren't setup when it's not being run? I'm not windows-aware enough to look for such things.

OK, try this proceedure. If possible completely remove cxoffice, by removing ~/cxoffice
and ~/.cxoffice. Install cxoffice 4.1. Install DCOM95. Install IE6. (both will be downloaded
automaticlly from the web). Install Notes 6.0.3 using the defaults, this may not be what you
want ideally but we're trouble shooting it, so the defaults are the best choices. (do not
start Notes 6.0.3) Now run/install the patch. Then start Notes 6.0.4 and configure
accordingly. I've had good sucess on a SuSE 9.1 system with this process.

I can't follow your instructions totally since I don't have access to an installable version of notes, only notes as installed on the XP partition of my laptop. I did completely remove it, install DCOM95 and IE6 and then copied over a clean copy of Notes from the XP partition. I still get the same dialog box as before.
