IBM Moves to R6

An internal note was sent to all IBM employees requiring that they install Lotus Notes 6 immediately, so now I really need it. But rumor has it (yes it's a rumor until the product comes out, and it does what the rumor says it does 😊 ) that Lotus is working on stability improvements in 6.0.4 specifically for Notes running under WINE. 😊 The only problem is that those of you who have the Notes 6 GA installer can't install and then use the incremental installer to add the stability fixes, so that may be where Codeweavers should focus their efforts, on the installer, then add an option maybe to install the incremental installer from the Internet (like the MS Office Service Pack, etc). It does not sound like Lotus plans to fix the installer problems, so a work around would be install it under Windows then copy it over and run it.

David,

I'm an xSeries FTSS in Upstate New York, and I run Linux on my Thinkpad. Not sure if you're aware of the Linux c4eb but we already have Notes 6.5.1 running under Linux with NUL-wine and it works quite well I might add. Send me an email at edevans at us.ibm.com and I'll send you the details.

Yes, I am told that Lotus fixed a key bug that kept Wine from running
with it in their 6.5.1 release. I am also told that 6.5.1 is still internal
only; it doesn't seem to be possible for 'regular' people to get it.

Yup, well aware of that, but as with most rpm's you have to execept the packager's way/idea of doing things and I, like most Linux users, like to do things my way / in a diffrent way, ex WINE-CVS, run other Win32 Apps, etc. But it's a nice way for me to dig thru the rpm and find what dll's and setting that were used to get it running. Plus the rpms are just for IBM'ers, and I can't share those (I like my job 😉) with others. For those non-IBM'ers that are reading this the good news is that 6.0.4 and 6.5.1 (which should be available to everyone someday) fix the runtime problems, so all we need is for Codeweavers to fix the Installer problems and then maybe add a function to the cxsetup to download and install the incremental update to bring 6.0.x to 6.0.4 and 6.5.x to 6.5.1 or greater. BTW, still no joy with the install, even with the current nightly builds.

Yes, and just for the record, we have noticed which app (Notes 6) is at
the top of both our vote and pledge list, and we're taking that quite seriously.
I don't want to promise anything, but I am in the process of getting my hands on 6.5.1...
