So I quit LOTRO in about September I think, and the client on Mac worked fairly well, but would crash occasionally. Has there been any update on its stability since then? For example, it was notorious for crashing if I changed Windows or something.

Other than having to use LotROMac for launching and patching, I have had almost no trouble with the game. There are issues with running it as a window (missing title bar, cursor disappearing), but running full-screen, I have had no significant issues.
Gamewise, a LOT has changed. You'll need to get the Moria expansion and head to the mines!
Well running it in windowed is still fairly unstable as mentioned, but it might be functional.
Something that occurred to me while tooling around with Twelve Sky...
Rather than letting LOTRO itself decide to run full screen or windowed, use winecfg.exe to emulate a virtual desktop for the window size you want. I need to spend some more quality time with the virtual desktop mode, but at first glance, it does fix the disappearing cursor problem and the missing title bar simply is no longer an issue (as CXG isn't making an OSX-style title bar)
That seemed to make it work much better. Only tested it for 30 minutes maybe.
Okay, virtual window is definitely the best way I've found to run LOTRO for stability. I have crashed only 2 times after I started to use that, and am not seeing any major decreases in speed as opposed to full screen.
