Tips & Tricks overhaul

The tips and tricks here has become quite out of date and not relevant to the current state of CXG and LOTRO/MOM. I intend to take a big machete to the poor thing, sending most of it to the big bit-bucket in the sky.

For OS X, pretty much the only "tip" needed is to use a Win2K bottle, the full MOM digital download and PyLOTRO for the launcher. Is there anything on the Linux side that currently posted and still useful for getting Mines of Moria running under CXG 7.2?

I would add a note for Mac about trying not to change out of the app while loading a new map or logging in, as that can cause you to freeze many times.

Also, for the Mac side I've really found setting up a virtual window to have the most effect on stability for me.

You would have to be careful of the EU versions and US versions.

With the US, use the download or use a MoM DVD/CD as it sets up everything (VC2005, etc) for you.

For the EU version, if you have the MoM DVD/CD it should work the same as the US version (I picked up a MoM EU that contained both SoA & MoM but wasn't labelled as a combo-pack).

If you are using the EU download I don't think it sets up VC2005 for you so you need to do that yourself.

For Mac OSX the method I used to successfully install and run European version of Lotro using standalone MoM patches is:
-Create a windows 2000 bottle.
-Install Volume 1 Book 14
-Install MoM patch 1
-Install MoM patch 2
-Install VC++ 2005
-Install Latest PyLotro(0.1.8.2 at time of writing)
-Update to latest using Pylotro updater

I tried a couple of times to install VC++ prior to installing the game and the game installer hanged. So, just in case, leave VC++ for the end just before pylotro

If you (or someone) would care to put that in the tips & tricks... :)

I don't use the EU servers.

I do have a question though... V1B14 is the last Shadows of Angmar. I assume the MoM patch #1 is to enable Moria, up through v2b6.

Would allowing PyLotro handle the Book 7 update be any easier? ...as opposed to a second manual download/patch?

Same here. I prefer it running in a 1440x900 virtual desktop, myself.

Unrelated... The Tips & Tricks is just a WIKI, not my personal property. :D If anyone wants/needs to change anything, go right ahead. I just thought that no one really needs to know how to get Book 11 up and running under CrossOver 6.0 anymore.

Both the MoM standalone patches are used to take Book 14 to the state of the client on Mines of Moria launch day. For some reason Codemasters broke it into two files.

I'll do the guide for the EU servers when I get the config checker working right when using the standalone version of pylotro (so that you can use that to check if the VC2005 stuff is installed as installing it on top of what LotRO installs seems to upset LotRO).

I have just installed LOTRO on CXG 7.2 using EU disk.

Files I downloaded.
Download Crossover Games 7 Day Trial - http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/download_trial/get_macosx/
Download LOTRO Standalone MoM patch 2 - http://www.gamershell.com/download_35910.shtml
Download PYLOTRO - http://www.lotrolinux.com/download.php

I used the 2 MoM disk set (not the compilation but it contains all the original SoA game files up to book 14), and set up CXG with a Win2k bottle.

Installed from the CXG menu option, (I did initially try and run the install from the 'autoplay' window prompt that popped up once the disk had mounted but this caused an error). I then installed the Standalone patch 2 (the Standalone Patch 1 was only needed if you did NOT have MoM on your account) I then installed PYLOTRO. The only thing I did not see listed above was that I had to set up the path to the game in the TOOLS/OPTIONS screen of PYLOTRO before it would allow me to select which Server I wanted to choose. I then selected Patch from the TOOLS menu (which at the moment would be a couple of Hot-fixes and the larger Book 7 patch). I left this running overnight due to my ISP throttling my downloads during peak times. This morning I was able to log in and play with no problems.

I had no issues with VC2005, this was showing as installed after installing from the MoM disks.

Hope this helps.

Richard.

I can't seem to dl the mom digital client, can it be installed via disk?
