Changing Game Resolution Freezes Game

Hardware:
MSI GX730 laptop
4GB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 w/ 512MB dedicated
17" Display running 1440x900

OS:
Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64

Game installed perfectly and runs great with pylotro. However, it will only display in 1024x768 resolution. Any change to the resolution results in a black screen. Sound continues but processor util drops down to 2%. Virtual desktop settings make no difference in the ultimate result that the game locks up. Killing the game and restarting loads game back into the 1024x768 res.

Any ideas?

Same problem with Intel iMac. Is this fixable?

What was amusing is that the music kept playing in the background, even after I quit PyLotRO. I had to force quit wineloader.

There is a one thing you can try, you should have a directory called The Lord of the Rings Online some where in your home directory (or in a directory just off that, I don't know where it gets created on a Mac). In there is a file called UserPreferences.ini

Open that and look for the line:

AllowFakeFullScreen

If it is set to False try setting it to True, this setting used to be a problem a year or so ago but seemed.

If that fails you can try setting your resolution manually by looking for the line:

Resolution=1280x1024

Obviously change the 1280x1024 to the value you want.

Most excellent! Thank you.

AllowFakeFullScreen was already set to true so I just manually set the Resolution and that fixed it.

Thanks again Alan.

Just as a test try setting AllowFakeFullScreen to False and see if that also resolves the issue. It's been a while since I've seen this problem so I might have my trues & falses the wrong way around :)

AllowFakeFullScree=False did not fix the issue experienced in changed the resolution within the game. I still received a black screen with the sound continuing in the background.

I also noticed that if I manually configure the resolution within the ini file that the game UI is outside of the active window. An example would be in 1152x864 mode, the experience bar is not visible. In higher resolution modes the action bars are off the screen. I tried changing the desktop resolution within winecfg but it didn't make any difference. I'm now back to running the game in 1024x768 mode. :(
