Blank (White) Output Window Error on Mac

Hi,

I am attempting to run LoTRO on a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 27" iMac, with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 video card, running OS X 10.6.4 using PyLotRO 0.1.13 and CrossOver Version 9.1 (9.1.0).

I followed the entire installation process (http://www.mcgillsociety.org/PyLotRO/index.html) using the Shadows of Angmar DVDs. I followed both of the patch tips for renaming patchclient.dll and the msvcr71.dll and installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. I also setup my video for 'opengl', set the Direct3D string to 512 (my video memory) and confirmed that I have d3dx9_24.dll - d3dx9_42.dll in my windows/system32 directory.

This is what I see when I click patch:

The news is visible and I can get the realm list, but when I click login a blank X11 output window opens up and nothing else happens. I let it sit for about five minutes before "aborting".

Any insight would be appreciated. 😊

One of the things about having a community supported application like LOTRO is that everyone has answers to every issue. ...but not everyone has every problem.

I would suggest starting over and keeping it simple: Download the Mines of Moria client (from whichever 3rd party mirror you want, listed in the Tips & Tricks section here), then use the C4P file to install it into a new bottle.

If you cannot patch using PyLOTRO, then install the Visual C support package. If that still doesn't work, then monkey around with moving and renaming files.

Once patched, if you cannot get into the game, then install the DirectX Modern support package. If you still have graphical issues, then monkey around with the registry settings and winecfg.

p.s. Any online game should have similar problems with support. Clean installs will always be different than incremental patches.

p.p.s. I'm going to try reinstalling from my own LOTRO:SOA dvds and see how far I get.... give you some direct feedback.
