I've followed the instructions in tips & tricks. Read in the forum and all. Ive installed the game and patched. Ive
downloaded the new patchclient2.dll file and done all that. Re-patched. But when I try to start the
game I still get "Finished"

What should I do?

Try this...

You already tried the "patchclient2.dll" trick. Now, try using the install wizard to add the Runtime Support Componnent "Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Modern" into your LOTRO bottle. The latest patch seems to require both. :(

Im sorry I dont understand what you mean. I'm not very computer experienced :S

By the way I downloaded the mines of moria from a 3rd party thing. Not from a disc. I downloaded it from the Tips&Tricks section. Should my bottle be winxp or win2000?

You shouldn't be making any changes to the bottle. The Install Software wizard takes care of everything for you.

or, rather, the C4P file that you are using to start the install process takes care of everything.

I had to install direct x modern before it worked for me.

I have no problem with either. I have a setup with each one, one for Bullroarer, the test server, and the other for the production server, and I see no difference in performance or other effects of Win2K vs WinXP bottles. PylotRO works in both.

I believe the current C4P setup creates a Win2K bottle, but I don't know off hand.

The LOTRO system requirements state that Windows XP is the minimum. The C4P uses an XP bottle.

Years ago, LOTRO did not have any sound when running under an XP bottle, but did with 2K, and that was why it was suggested to use the 2K bottle.

The audio issue has long since been resolved, and requiring the 2K bottle is outdated.

Technically speaking Win2K identifies itself as Windows NT 5.0 and WinXP as Windows NT 5.1. Even though there may not be much difference between the two, I'd stick with the XP bottle.

sounds like the same problem i had. maybe this works for you, too.
