E04 Error accessing GLS data centre.

I have no idea what the problem is here. I had originally installed the game but it kept getting hung up on account details, and by then I had moved the files around so much that I uninstalled everything and did a fresh install. Now I have 8 bottles (and I don't really understand what a 'bottle' is...) labeled:

Lord of the Rings Online
Lord of the Rings Online_Siege of Mirkwood
Lord of the Rings Online_Siege of Mirkwood-2
Lord of the Rings Online_Siege of Mirkwood-3
Lord of the Rings Online_Siege of Mirkwood-4
Lord of the Rings Online-2
Lord of the Rings Online-3
lotrostandard.exe

The files are in username>Applications>CrossOver Games>PyLotRO and username>Applications>CrossOver Games>Turbine>The Lord of the Rings Online>

Originally I tried to use the standard download from the lotro game site, but the game wouldn't install I guess because of the Pando Installer? I then used a 10gb file downloaded from the link in the F2P NA post on the tips & tricks section. I am running on an Intel Mac, and currently using the trial of CrossOver Games. When I click on the Programs drop down in CrossOver, it has PyLotRO and Turbine. PyLotRO has "PyLotRO (Lord of the Rings Online_Siege of Mirkwood-4)" and "Uninstall" as options, and Turbine has "The Lord of the Rings Online". Which am I supposed to click to open and run and play the game?

Only the PyLotRO one even opens. It shows me the launcher but I can't select a realm or enter my account info to login. The boxes and the login button are greyed out. It gives me this message:

Initialising, please wait...
Available languages checked.
[E04] Error accessing GLS data centre.

And that is all. I already clicked on the Tools > Settings Wizard and it just gives me the same message. The game directory is C:/Program Files/Turbine/The Lord of the Rings Online.

Sorry that this is long, I just wanted to give as much info as possible to prevent any possible questions as to my setup. Also, I have read the FAQ and I don't find them helpful for a user who is not familiar with delving into application files to tweak things. I had hoped this would be a simple install, but it's not turning out to be. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated. I just wanted to play this online with my friend. :(

Same error as above:

Initialising, please wait...
Available languages checked.
[E04] Error accessing GLS data centre.

LOTRO worked fine yesterday. No luck today.

PyLotRO is not able to communicate with the Turbine master datacenter.

There can be any number of reasons for this... ranging from the fact that the Turbine servers are down, to the fact that you are not connected to the Internet... and everything in between!

This is normally a "simple" communications issue -- try again later.

"Later" can be anywhere from a few seconds (i.e. however long it takes to cancel and re-launch PyLotRO) to several hours depending upon the particular cause.

Usually a 2-5 minute wait is all that is necessary... unless it is a "scheduled outage" by Turbine (or your ISP).

Everyone is seeing this error today...Mac & PC alike. Turbine is currently having datacenter issues. This has been going on since roughly 11 am today...As of their last twitter update (about an hour agO0, they have techs in the datacenter working on the problem. This problem is not only affecting the game servers, but also the website/forums, DDO services and Asheron's Call services. The last time I looked, none of the domains would even resolve via DNS lookups, so it's a bad problem. All I can say is to keep an eye on Turbine's twitter feed, as that'll likely be the first place the news hits when the problem is fixed.

Whew....

First off... a "bottle" is where CXG (I.e. WINE) keeps the specific Windows software being worked.

There are several locations for CXG files. Those which you mention are only "part of the story."

The "bottles" (and the majority of the disk space usage) reside in:
<user>/Library/Applications Support/CrossOver Games/<bottles>
Configuration files are found in:
<user>/Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/
This directory is also where various Lua Plugins go; where UI "saves" are kept; and where screenshots are stored.

1- get rid of all but 1 of the bottles. (Or all of them).

One presumes that each "bottle" has a complete copy of LOTRO .... i.e. each is about 4GB worth of files!
(If not, then the multiple bottles are simply an annoyance.)

A) launch CXG,
B) with the 5th Pulldown (Configure) select "Manage Bottles."
C) Highlight a bottle and click the "-" at the bottom left of the screen. That bottle will be deleted.

Personally, I would recommend you start over by deleting all the bottles, then go to the other two directories and delete the files there.
<user>/Applications/CrossOver Games/
<user>/Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/
You can delete these top level directories as they will be recreated for you.... easier than deleting the contents, one by one.

2- Now you should have a "clean system." I assume you picked up CXG 10.0 -- as it was released on Thursday. If not,
go down load it from the Codeweavers site and install it. (It's a dimple drag and drop install.)

Next use the CrossTie (formerly called C4P) installer.
Point it at the 10GB game file you downloaded,
It will Install PyLotRO, DirectX and C+ (so you don't have to worry about them from tips and tricks).
Go have a nice evening... dinner, dancing, drinks, etc.

The install takes about 4 hours as I recall.

When you get back.

Launch CXG, in its "Programs" pulldown, you should have an entry for PyLotRO.
Select that to launch the game... (Note: for future ease, in the Dock right click on the PyLotRO "ring" and select "options/keep in dock")
One PyLotRO launches, go to the Settings Wizard in "Tools."
Select Lord of the Rings on Line (it should be filled in) and click on "find games."
Select the "found game" "C:\Program Files..." click apply
Go back to tools, select "Patch."
Click start....
Go out for desert and a night cap... depending on when the 10GB file was originally created, you may have the November 2010 update to install as well as this past Monday's update. The November update takes about 2 hours as I recall. Monday's update was "quick" only about 30 minutes.
If the game needs to update from further back it will take longer.

NOTE: when you "find games" and clicked apply, the main screen should report "Fetched details from GLS data centre"

Once patching is completed you should be good to go.
