Hi, i know that there was a message saying not to post crashing
errors here, but there is nothing in the tips and tricks section
that is valid to my issue. My pylotro keeps crashing, sometimes
every ten minutes, sometimes every five, or every 1-6 hours. Its
inconsistent, and it minimizes the full screen on my macbook pro
running Mac OS X Snow Leopard (Latest version in Aug. 09). It gives
me a window from crossover games saying that "lotroclient.exe has
encountered a serious issue and needs to close, and then some random
stuff after that that i never read. All else that is on that page is
a button that says close, then i have to click abort and exit in the
pylotro window before i can run it again. Whats wrong with it?
So whats wrong? i have everything in the same bottle. What's wrong
with the game? (Since i know it is the game, i suspect that its
because its a downloadable version, not disc based. I read some
forums saying LotRO wouldn't work if it wasn't a disc based Mines of
Moria disk (that was said for mac users)) could that have anything
to do with it? If so, where could i possibly download Mines of Moria
(Since they don't actually sell a disc based version since F2P was
unlocked)? What else can i do to solve the issue?
Have you gone through the "Tips& Tricks" - "CrossOver Games - Mac Tweaks, from the Forums?" -- especially setting the video memory size.
The Turbine client cannot talk directly to the graphics in your Mac. It talks to WINE and "much is lost in the translation."
Extremely high graphics settings can cause issues. Try lowering settings.
At this time, there is no "answer" to the random crashing issue. Some people have and some do not. I for one have not had a crash in LOTRO now since June of 2010 when I first started testing with CXG 10.0. For me 10.1 is even more stable.
The issue of using a disc copy vs the download was an issue before 10.1. Prior to 10.1, it was not possible to use the Turbine provided download client because it used Pando Media Booster, which did not run under CXG at the time. It does run now. So the download process works fine. The Turbine Game Client Launcher itself still does not work. This is why it is necessary to use PyLotRO to launch the Turbine Game Client.
BTW Snow leopard has been updated many times since it was released in 09. The current version is 10.6.7 -- under the apple, about this mac, will give you your current version. If it is not current, I would recommend you use the Software update (next item in the apple menu) to "catch up" with Snow Leopard updates. Also, the current version of CXG is 10.1, it DOES fix a number of issues.
