Attempting to choose an audio driver forces program to have to close.

Hello!

Background: I came across the CrossOver software when looking for a solution to attempt to run an old version of Logic Platinum. The version I was able to come across is actually Logic Audio Platinum 5.3. Using Logic Audio 5, version 5.4 or lower, is crucial to the tasks I am attempting to accomplish (Logic 5.5 and up replaces legacy software instruments that cannot recreate the same sounds in newer versions). Logic 5.4 for mac was working very well for me on my Mac Power PC, but when it died and I bought an Intel Mac, it no longer worked. Flash forward to now . . .

Crossover appears to work great for the Windows Logic 5.3 installer that I have! I have to select 'Other Software' under 'Community Supported' when I load the installer with CrossOver. After going through the motions of the windows installer, it says it is installed successfully, and I am able to launch Logic. Immediately after the blank project arrange window loads up, an alert message tells me that I'll have to select an audio driver for use with Logic Audio (a seemingly logical requirement when dealing with an DAW program. The problem is that whenever I attempt to load either the Audio Preferences and Drivers or any other major Preferences type option in the program, I get a CrossOver error messaging effectively telling me that it has to close out Logic Audio.

From what I can see, the program seems like it would work fine if it was able to properly communicate how to handle the audio driver function. Without audio, all I am able to do is record MIDI into the sequencer, which can playback with some general MIDI voices (not sure if they are from the windows environment or if CrossOver somehow uses system resources from my mac). The point is this program seems like it could work just fine, and it would really be amazing if I could load an audio driver so that I could load and play with some of those legacy software instruments.

I am a complete newbie to CrossOver, and might be overlooking potential ways to address such issues. I would be thrilled to receive and feedback, follow-up questions, or any other interest related to trying to get Logic to work. If anyone wants to tinker with the logic 5.3 installer, I would be happy to get it to you as well as everything you should essentially need to attempt to get it working for you.

Thanks for reading!
