Please report regressions - don't post them as tips&tricks

@EskildH

Hi there,

I noticed your last tips&tricks posting --- that situation is what we term
a regression (worked in a previous crossover version but does not work in the
latest/current release). Did you email info@codeweavers.com about this or submit
a support ticket? If not, you really really should -- it's the only real way to
help this game run again in -future- crossover releases.

The tips&tricks page is primarily meant as a place to record ways/means/methods
of overcoming difficulties running an app -- that situation is not so strictly
enforced (people tend to post what they like in tips&tricks, even if they should
perhaps post them somewhere else...ie; forum pages like this one), but -regressions-
should -always- be reported. If they are not, the devs will end up knowing nothing
about the issue, and it may go unfixed for longer than needs be.

To that end, I have actually let the Miraculous Ninja's know about your tip&trick
posting, however you own this app (not I) and so you're the only person that can
provide the necessary details/debug information to help Legends of Norrath work again 8)

Do not take this too badly -- I'm just trying to help both you and your app get
a better airing, and explaining what must happen to get that done...ie; at least
you reported it somewhere so that it got noticed - it's just a little unfortunate
you didn't post this to the 'right' place <grin>

Cheers!

Hi,
I reported it as a regression during beta in a beta report, and I've contacted support asking if they could open up a bug report.
The reason for the tips&tricks article is because the compatibility center does not display ranks for previous verisons, and thus someone might see this and think it won't work - while it /will/ work if one just installs an older version of cxgames, which anyone that has bought it has access to anyway. Sorry if that's the wrong way to proceed, I just felt that information should be available somewhere, and tips&tricks is a place people tend to check.

Hi,

No problem....and don't apologize -- it's just one of those things (even when
I submit beta reports about such issues, there's still a need to be sure the issue
ends up as a support ticket and doesn't get lost as a beta report...so if any of
my beta report problems are still evident in the new release, then I submit a support
ticket on things I submitted beta reports on)...convoluted, but that's how it goes 8)

The compatibility center does display ranks for previous versions, it's just not
that obvious sometimes....see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=4515;medals=1

You get that from clicking on the 'See Medal Breakdown' link....also, have a look
at the HalfLife (and other) C4 pages...multiple medals/versions are listed..see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=3

Believe me, I -do- understand your good intentions with posting that into tips&tricks,
however if that wasn't there, tip&tricks would be empty, and then people tend to look
at the forum....(in fact, many's the time advocates have to post replies into the forums
along the lines of "have you read the tips&tricks yet?"..because they haven't 8)....

Like I say though, no big deal.....mind you, as a linux user, what do I do in the case
where a game runs in 9.1 and not in 9.0 .... and you have this case where it runs in 9.0
and not in 9.1? Do I continually change version of CXG as I decide to play one game or
another? <grin> Sometimes it's not quite as easy as just installing the older version
and having at it...however...the crux of this was to ensure that it -was- reported as a
regression, and didn't end up languishing as a tip&trick...so life is good (8

Cheers!

I've actually written an app that assists with switching between versions (http://random.zerodogg.org/wwine).
I've got cxgames 7.0.0.-9.1.0 installed in ~/games/cxgames, so to run LoN I just do:
wwine -b LoN -w cxg -c ~/games/cxgames/9.0.0 LegendsOfNorrath.exe - and it runs using 9.0 instead of the default (9.1) (well, I don't really type it, got a launch script, but you get the idea) and it ends up just all shiny.

Now...that is an interesting notion/work-around to a common issue facing
users -- personally I don't have a use for such (and in some ways frown
upon such usage 8)....but as a means to an end...yes, I get the idea of
what you've done with wwine and can see how you're doing it. Funny...did
you catch the following thread in the advocates forum?...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/advocate_center/forum/?t=1;msg=77933

You should've been part of that discussion <grin> ...

Cheers!

Ah, no, I missed that. Mayhaps I should pay more attention to the advocates forum :p
