Hello world. I am starting to evaluate Legacy Family Tree Deluxe 8.0.0.549 using CrossOver 15.1.0 and OS X El Capitan 10.11.5 on a MacBook Air.
Installing Legacy Family Tree 8.xx was simple and easy, albeit a bit confusing. The first screen asked what software to install and I mistakenly thought that meant I had to download the Legacy software to my Mac. After a minute or two, I discovered that CrossOver has the Legacy download and install built in and the rest of the process was impressively simple. I was astounded to find Legacy knew my Customer Number and found all the Legacy files on my Mac without prompting. At first glance, they appear intact. Impressive!
As a matter of habit, I checked the version of Legacy. It says last updated 8 Jul 2013, so I attempted to run an update. This repeatedly failed. Apparently, the version installed is the latest, ver. 8.0.0.549, and does not require updating.
After shutdown and restart, I see two versions of Legacy 8. Deleting the dupe appeared easy but the 2nd copy returns after restart. Both seem to work the same. Restarting Legacy triggers the prompt to choose a file. This is not overly burdensome, but is different from running Windows. It would be helpful to have guidance on where to put Legacy data and backup files, and how to get Legacy to remember the last file worked on.
After installing CrossOver, I setup an account and received links to installation instructions, etc. Although instructions were not needed, I would have felt more confident with instructions before installation. Just saying. After only a few minutes running Legacy, I have the confidence to begin using it on a real data file (with a backup).
