I installed Crossover Office 3.0.1 on Ubuntu Linux development version (Hoary) without any problems.
I then installed Internet Explorer 6.0 sp1 as Legacy 5.0 requires to run.
Crossover Office downloded dcom95 from the net and than proceeded to install Internet Explorer. I customised the install and included the following additional components: Offline Browsing Pack, Help, Core Fonts, Dynamic HTML Data Binding, Browsing Enhancements, Windows Media Player (WMP) , WMP Codecs, Vector Graphics Rendering (VML), AOL Art Image Format Support, Macromedia Flash Player, Visual Basic Scripting Support and Additional Web Fonts, 55.3MB in total. IE 6 was installed from APC Mag (Australian Computer Magazine) Cover Disc. It installed successfully.
After the simulated reboot, I attempted to install Legacy Family Tree 5.0.
I installed using "Legacy5setup.exe" obtained from the Legacy Family Tree Genealogy website at: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp
I used the "Install unsupported software" option and pointed it at the above file.
The installer poped up and after entering the password, obtained via email after registering, I chose the complete install to C:\Legacy. It did not install. I had to "kill" cxoffice as the final stage of setup froze for close to five minutes.
I admit that the "alpha" distribution I chose was not a wise one. It is just what I am currently running at present.
I will install Mandrake 10.1 to a spare partition and fully update it from official channels only. Then I will attempt the installation again and document it here in the next 24 hours

Update 25/11/2004 11:12pm (GMT +10)
Installed Crossover 3.0.1 to Mandrake 10.1 Community. Then attempted to install Legacy Family Tree 5.0. Installation did not succeed. Installation froze in the final stages of updating the application.
So, I downloaded Cxoffice 4.0 Demo and installed to Mandrake 10.1 after uninstalling previous version.
Success! I followed the above installation routine with one exception. I installed Internet Explorer 6.0sp1 using the minimum installation.
I then installed Legacy 5.0 using the unsupported software option. Installation completed successfully.
The application started before the simulated reboot finished. I closed the Legacy application to allow the reboot to complete successfully.
I then clicked on both the Legacy icon on my desktop, and the one in the menu. Both failed to launch the application.
I used this command from the terminal to launch Legacy 5.0
/opt/cxoffice/bin/wine /home/mike/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Legacy/Legacy.exe
I then changed the properties dialogue for the desktop to use the command above and the Legacy opened successfully.
I then imported a 1.2MB gedcom file, which imported successfully, with no errors.
