Completing Installation to 1%. It hangs, then throws up the Incomplete Install error (2)

Edit: Validating Files doesn't make a difference.

this happens after every update from valve. just give it time.

If you copy over a client.dll file from a L4D2 install that has been verified at the latest update the game will then load properly for you - but then it crashes out on me once I get to the menu :(

Client.dll is personalized for each account. If you grab a client.dll from another person, it'll just crash after loading the game.

But it might be interesting to see what happens if you validate L4D2 on your account under windows, and then try to run the game through CrossOver.

I've taken the client.dll from my Windows installation to my Crossover Games one, but with little success. I get to the loading screen and then it just crashes. It completely vanishes, with no error messages.

I'd tried this long ago, it is different on each machine (probably a DRM check along with unique machine ID).

Yep. I swear sometimes their engineers update just to f*** with Wine support - but then I am a bit of a cynic so...
