L4D2 Silver Medal Rating?

Umm why does L4D2 have a silver medal rating? Isn't this a bit misleading for people buying L4D2 and Crossover Games thinking it'll work today? I'd LOVE to give it a silver medal rating like TF2 but the majority of us cannot run this game.

"The Silver rank is awarded to applications that install and run well enough to be usable. This means that the consensus of our users is that you can expect to use these applications on an everyday basis with good results. However, they also contain bugs that prevent them from running flawlessly"

I'm not sure why it has a silver rating given the rating it's getting from all of the advocates.

However, I do know that the game runs really well using a release candidate of 8.1.0 - which they are doing their best to get out the door soon. I installed it and played the multiplayer co-op campaign last night. It was only the demo, but I am confident the full game will run as well as the demo. As soon as they release 8.1.0 I'll be rating the game again and probably giving it a gold rating.

The only thing I couldn't get working last night was the in game voice chat - but googling for that has turned up scores of problems for windows users with voice chat.

I know I didn't answer your question - but hopefully I've eased the worry of people who are thinking of buying and/or have already bought and want this game to work.

I should also mention that the game didn't run at all for me in 8.0.0, and it ran without any extra work right away in 8.1.0 - which is quite reassuring.

I signed up to be an Advocate so I can download 8.1.0, but I'm not allowed access it. Still not an advocate, how long does the process take after you sign up?

I don't know what their normal response time is. However, I'm certain it's probably a bit slower than normal as they are working hard to get this release out the door. I signed up over the weekend and received my access mid-day yesterday.

The game dose runs very well in 8.1, and thats why it has a silver rating

And to the people signing up to be Advocates, don't just do it for the beta or to change this rating. If you become an advocate, do what you agreed to when you signed up

Agreed! I signed up to be an advocate because I want to advance gaming in linux generally, not just because of this game. :)

Also for some of us, the game worked perfectly fine with the demo, but retail had issues for us - but we just haven't updated yet.

I installed crossover-games-demo-8.020091117-unstripped.dmg for Mac and it worked fine until I started testing video resolutions. It started crashing at menu with the "could not load library client" error.

This error was posted in the steam forums with a solution of Deleting local content, then open "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\" and delete the Left 4 Dead 2 Folder, restart steam and re-install game.

I'm currently installing and will post when I have some more results. I'll also post my Launch Settings and Video Settings along with my average FPS. Running on a 1st Gen Intel iMac Duo Core with 2GB RAM

my laptop can run this without any errors on mac os x 8.10 (not nightly build). my laptop runs at 1440x900 and I can also run this on mac os x using 8.10 on 1920x1280 on my imac so r u on linux or is it the nightly build? (nightly build says 8.02 not 8.10 so that might be it)

It's the nightly build for Mac 8.02. Had to delete local content and reinstall but runs perfectly right now. I'm running 1st Gen Intel iMac 2GM RAM OSX 10.5.8

EDIT: Can someone post the link for 8.1.0 for me please? Cannot find it anywhere. Everytime I exit the game, I get "could not load Library Client" Fixed this once, do not wantt to have to re-install again.

has anyone who had the installation error tried using the nightly build mentioned here with any success? [8.02-1117]

i've tried deleting local content two times already [among other 'fixes'] and nothing has changed.

I'll try that build later tonight and see what happens.

I've been having troubles with this build and moved on to trying 8.1.0rc1, I'll keep you posted.

Well I did a completely CLEAN install of 8.1.0rc1, got rid of everything and re-installed all my Steam games.

L4D2 will run ONCE and only ONCE. I can play for hours, but when I quit, then it crashes after the videos before the menu loads and I get a "cannot load library client"

Not really sure what to do here. I tried a nightly build, tried 8.1.0rc1 and still can't play.

Chris,

They released rc3 last night - it appears they may have fixed the issue you're talking about:

From their release email:
"There was also another bug in that when the crash occurred, the production
L4D2 would trigger a bug in CrossOver such that client.dll was removed.
We've also worked around that issue."

I would try a clean install with rc3.

There is already rc3 which fixes exactly that "cannot load library client" problem.
To get your game up and running again, perform a "Verify" from within Steam so that L4D can repair itself.

The crash is caused by a problem in L4D itself which even Windows users get; just not as often as CXG users. So for a real fix you have to wait for Valve to fix it.

Thank you Lakin and Andreas, I'm installing again now :) Wish me luck!

P.S. the Olympic Torch just went past my front door! (Nova Scotia, Canada) Pretty cool to see all my neighbors out cheering for the flame.
