Game crashes on map change and upon engaging witches.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Using Linux, CrossOver Games v. 8.1 rc03.

It's worth of note that when the game crashes on map change, a the map file 'll disappear and I won't be able to rejoin the game until I verify the game cache/redownload the file.

Restart Steam
Right-click L4D2 and Install
Let it sort itself out.

I am not at home to test this at the moment, but if anyone has the chance this is a possible solution.

(note that this may also fix the Error 53 issue upon starting the game)

This appears to just force a re-install. I'm trying it now, but I don't have much hope.

Tried it, it doesn't work to solve these issues.

Hrmm - it says updating, not installing - maybe I'm wrong!?

Apparently the NCFs contain information about what is installed and indicate to Steam that the game is installed. With the content remaining and the NCFs gone, Steam will report the game as "Not Installed". Choosing to install downloads new NCFs and sees the existing content and will update as needed if what is there doesn't match what should be there.

This is also happening to folks on Windows systems, quite a few of them in fact. This may very well be an issue with the game itself.

(I can't play it on my ATI cards regardless :( )

Yeah - didn't work for me .

For everyone else with the witch crashing issue, Valve is apparently aware of the problem.
