Fps drop after a short period of playtime

Hi
Thanks for the support of this game.
I have followed the instructions, and the game runs very smooth and well for a short period of time.
After 5-10 min playtime the games begins to drop in fps, so the game is getting totally unplayable.
What can I do? As mentioned the game runs fine in the beginning of each level.
My specs are a Macbook Pro 13" 4gb ram, 2.53Ghz
And newest crossover

Thanks

I cannot help, but You are still luckier than the most rest of us 😊 Most people have crash after that 5-10 mins...

Have you tried to play in windowed mode with a lower resolution?

Hi just to correct myself its fps drop not lag 😊
but haven't tried windowed how do I run in windowed without the OS taking my mouse for joy corners and such

but thanka for answers keep Them comming

Sorry, I should have mentioned it!

If you right-click on the entry in Steam under your "My Games" tab, click Properties and then click "Set launch options...", you can add certain start-up options for the game, such as forcing windowed mode without having to go in-game and change it there (which is impossible in some situations).

In this box, add: "-windowed", with the dash, hit OK, close the Properties dialog, then launch your game. You should notice immediate performance improvements.

Some other options I recommend for enhancing performance are:
-novid (prevents intro videos from loading, speeding start-up time)
-dxlevel 70 (drops the DirectX version, in this case to version 7.0, which helps with in-game performance)

I think it's -window (maybe both work)

I believe L4D and L4D2 both require DirectX 9, so -dxlevel 90 will be as low as you can go

Ah, that's too bad. Would have been nice to drop the version.

It may, in fact, be "-window". If one doesn't work, try the other. =)

Ok thanks I will try to see if it helps.. Just a bit annoying to run in windowed mode but if it helps the fps drop then I will give it a go.. I will post result later today

Did not help, tried 800x640 in windowed but same results. A huge fps-drop after 5 min playtime

I noticed nobody in this thread mentioned setting the heapsize. We figured out, in another thread, that setting the heapsize fixed different problem of crashing after about 5min of playtime. It almost sounds related to your slowdown problem. Look under the tips & tricks tab to see what heapsize you should use. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Anders,

I just started having the same issue on my 2.4ghz aluminum Macbook, out of the blue. Did you ever solve this problem?

Thanks

Be sure to enable "Higher Performance" under Energy Saver in System Preferences.
