Working well in COG 8.x and linux - CD version

Note: The ValuSoft release does not require these additional configuration
steps.

Note: although this pertains to the CD release, the following may
also be of interest for those with the Steam or other releases...

The simulation engine itself runs near gold in COG-8.x/linux, but
there are a number of hoops to jump through. I'll do a detailed
tip&trick for this later, but the short version goes like this...

Download the following uxtheme multi-patcher;

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/UXTheme-MultiPatcher.shtml

1. mount the CD, start cxinstallwizard

2. when cxinstallwizard gets to the 'Select product location' GUI,
choose 'Other installer file'=> use the Browse function to
navigate to the 'setup.exe' file on the CD, continue with the
installation...include the directx 9.0c install when prompted

Note: after installation completes, remove any desktop icons created
during the install process

3. now install the file downloaded above into the same bottle

Note: including this doesn't actually fix anything, it just allows
things to move on later...

4. in the Add/Remove tab, highlight the bottle, then click on Configure=>
Control Panel=>Run (a command in this bottle) => use the Browse button
and navigate to the 'drivegreen1.exe' inside the bottle game install
directory=>click on Open, then click on Create Shortcut -- you will now
have a desktop icon that will work when this is all finished -- you
can exit cxinstallwizaed now...

5. create the following file with a plain-text editor ;

~/Drive Green/Config.ini

The contents of this file are as follows;

[eV Config]
bannerImage=Data\ConfigBanner.bmp
deviceId=0
hRes=1024
vRes=768
d3dFormat=22
lockVsync=0
tripleBuffer=0
debug=0
digDriverEnabled=1
dig3dEnabled=1
enableMP3Music=1
forceSoftwareVP=0
enableStencil=1
runHwConfig=0
windowed=0
skipIntro=0
drawTer=1
drawWater=1
drawGrass=1
displayNone=0
displaySimple=1
displayVerbose=0
quickStart=0
developer=0
defaultDetail=1
detailOverride=0
runWhileInactive=0
lockableBackbuffer=0
[Game]
curProfileSlot=0

Note: the line runHwConfig=0 is mandatory to avoid issues with the
included hardware configuration program

  the other variables are fairly self explanatory, experiment with them if you want

6. Now launch the game from the desktop icon created earlier - game should run well

Note: game immediately recognized my USB connected Logitech digital game pad, which
worked as expected

  the above was done with 'Emulate a virtual desktop' enabled in winecfg

Happy plowing... ;)

Cheers!
