iTunes 10.1 under CX Linux 9.2.0

After installing the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" iTunes 10.1 installs and runs. iTunes takes a long time to start, upwards of 20 seconds or more (2.8Ghz Core2 Duo). Application always complains about not being properly installed, and unable to burn CD's. Navigating the iTunes Store seems to work as expected, previews play but no sound. Selecting video previews crashes iTunes. I am able to import MP3's into my iTunes library, and play them, sometimes I get sound, sometimes I dont. Selecting video's (even tutorials) will crash iTunes. As expected, iPhone and iPod sync does not work, not sure it ever will. In a nutshell, it starts, but is generally worthless.

Hi Truaxd,

I have installed Itunes 10 and though it works much slower than it does in Windows 7 all of the functions I have tried work. I have previewed many songs, downloaded a music video and paid for it via Itunes. I don't have an ipod but I have been able to use my Nokia 95 to transfer music both ways i.e. to and from the phone. I too get the message that it is unable to burn music or videos but once downloaded that is no hardship. I hope Codeweavers continues to improve the usability of Itunes so that it runs faster but like I said with the exception of being able to burn a cd,dvd it works fine.

Hi William,

That's awesome! I'm glad video is working for you, I still can't seem to get it working on Fedora 14 (64bit). Would you mind submitting a screenshot? I think a screenshot of a running video would be a worth while addition to the "Screenshot" section. Also, if you did anything besides install iTunes 10.1 in a XP bottle with the "Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" please mention it here, I think it would be nice to get this running well for everyone. And once I get everything working I plan to build a C4P for fast installs.

Hi Truaxd,

I have just picked up your reply and it is 00:45 here I am just about to go to bed however, I will try to do as you have asked first thing tomorrow though I have only downloaded the one music video so far which my grand daughter asked me to download it is - Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby One More Time. I have watched many of the video reviews to see if I could get Itunes to crash. It does sometimes crash though it seems to happen if I try to hurry the program instead of waiting that little bit longer for things to process. I note you are using Fedora 19, I don't know all of the different distro's though I have heard of most of them and I have only used Linux Mint, Linux 2010, Ubuntu 10.04 and lastly the one I am using now which is Ubuntu 10.10. I was very surprised Itunes worked in 10.10 since it did not work in 10.04 I am not sure of the differences between 10.04 and 10.10 but I only changed to 10.10 because 10.04 kept crashing. It would work for a couple of hours and then crash which I identified as a problem with the video driver apparently 10.10 has a fix for the fault which I believe is not going to be included in 10.04 so I changed to 10.10 rather than go back to Windows 7 completely.

Many thanks for coming back to me I must admit I was a little surprised and now I know people do read the forum I will add as much information as I can.

Best Regards

Bill

Hi again Truaxd,

If you should pick up my above reply before I post the screenshot it may be worth giving me some info on how to copy and post a screenshot just in case I am unble to do it like I would in Windows.

Kind regards

Bill
