Hi Folks,
Short Query
Does the audio-streaming (AirTunes) feature of iTunes work under crossover?
Detailed Explanation
Range of desktops/laptops in our house, covering Mac, Windows & Linux (plus PS3, iPads, etc, etc), plus a HP Microserver (Linux) doing sterling services as a NAS (NFS Shares) plus PS3MediaServer, etc.
We have an AirPort Express in the lounge, allowing us to stream audio from iTunes to the lounge stereo, controlled by the iPhone/iPad "Remote" app.
HOWEVER - this requires us to have a Mac/Windows desktop/laptop turned on & running iTunes to work. As I prefer to avoid having machines powered-up when not being actively used, this means "hassle" in getting something running before you can listen to music.
The one exception is the Linux server, which runs 24x7.
I'm hoping, then, that someone will have tried/be able to try the AirTunes service from iTunes under crossover, and let me know if it's successful. if so, then that would be a major boon to me. If not, then I'll have to consider buying an additional XP licence, and running a VirtualBox instance at all times with iTunes inside of it. I fear, however, that this may consume more system resources on the server than I'm willing to give-up.
Thanks, in advance, for your responses.
Gavin.
