Irfan View

Snow Leopard 10.6.1, Crossover 8.0.0
Irfanview 4.25 installs in its own XP bottle.
Irfanview 4.25 runs to a very limited extent.
Following a clean install in a new bottle, the thumbnail viewer (panda icon) starts the first time after installation allowing views of JPG images; thereafter the thumbnail viewer fails to start. The panda Icon disappears from the dock after a few seconds.
The main program (flat red cat(?) icon) fails even at the first attempt after a clean install.
Plugins do not function. I use NEF format, that format needs the plugins installed.
I have tried all plugins and formats on their own. Neither option functions.
(Other applications I use in Crossover, e.g. MS office, Avant Browser, Opanda (EXIF viewer), all work well).

Any advice welcomed.

I'm not sure I can be of too much help. I am running Leopard OS X 10.5.8, and I decided not to install the most recent Irfanview, as I had a slightly older version on my old PC. I have 4.10 which I installed in a 2000 bottle (and there are other programs in the bottle as well.... no problem). I was not interested in most of the plug-ins, especially the non-image ones, so I didn't install those either. However, the program runs completely as expected otherwise, including the thumbnails.

Jim,

I have same setup/problem: Snow Leopard 10.6.1 with Crossover 8.0.1 and installed IrfanView 4.25 just fine, but it won't run.

About the only problem I can find is this in the system.log:
dyld: warning, DYLD_ setting caused circular dependency in /Applications/CrossOver.app/Contents/SharedSupport/X11/lib/libGL.dylib

Hope they fix this (I will help if they need it), as there is no comparison to IrfanView for the Mac.

Jim,

I'm about to make your day. I found the solution here. You need to remove the two lines below the line "[Toolbar]" in your i_view32.ini file (usually located at /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/<bottlename>/drive_c/Program Files/IrfanView/ )

Cheers

It works perfectly!

Thanks Kirk.

I confirm IrfanView 4.25 + plugins to work fine on OpenSUSE 11.1/64 + crossover-standard-7.1.0-1

My ini was here: ~/.cxoffice/IrfanView/drive_c/Program\ Files/IrfanView/i_view32.ini

I am using OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2, and Crossover Pro V8.0.1

Here is how I installed Irfanview 4.25, I made the text below as a How-To
for my self after reading some of the forum posts.

The installer needs "mfc42.dll" to be placed into

/Users/YOUR USER NAME/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/YOUR BOTTLE NAME/drive_c/windows/system32

In the "i_view32.ini" file, delete the two lines below "[Toolbar]", for me
that was

Skin=Samuel_16.png
Size=16

The "i_view32.ini" file is located at

/Users/YOUR USER NAME/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/YOUR BOTTLE NAME/drive_c/Program Files/IrfanView

Hi,

It would be preferable to install Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 redistributable to satisfy the
mfc42.dll dependency -- this is because there are multiple versions of mfc42.dll out there
and for consistent results, everyone should try and use the same version as provided by
the above runtime dependency package. You might try this and confirm that it works...

Cheers!

Thanks much - works great! Any opinions on what kind of bottle to create? Would Win98 work? Seems the oldest/smallest would be best.

Since I didn't really find it necessary for my purposes to upgrade Irfan View from 4.10, I would suspect that this version would work fine in a Win 98 bottle. It just so happens that I put it in a Win 2000 bottle which had several small programs that I felt would not cause trouble. The image features of Irfan View work fine. (I didn't install the audio/video plug-ins as I didn't need them.) For those wanted a full functioning image version and are experiencing difficulties with the latest version, consider using the slightly older 4.10. The only addition needed is the mfc42.dll as noted in all the examples above, but without change to the .ini

This note was written while I was running Mac OS 10.5.8, but have since upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.4. If anything the image features of the old Irfanview have improved with this upgrade and concurrent upgrade to CrossOver 9.1.0 Pro.
