IrfanView on Mountain Lion

A possible problem with IrfanView installation on Mountain Lion has been reported. I am moving discussion to this new thread. Here is some relevant excerpts from previous discussion:

===

Mac mini i7 8 gB RAM OS 10.8.1
CrossOver 11.2.1
I installed Irfanview433 by opening CrossOver and clicking on Install Windows Software and using Other Applications. When the window said installation complete, I clicked Done. Then I went back to the CrossOver window and clicked on 2 Run Windows Software but nothing happened. I closed CrossOver and repeated the entire process, but Run Windows software does nothing.
What am I doing wrong?

===

My guess is that you forgot to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable".
There are instructions on how to install IrfanView in the Tips & Tricks
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=268;tips=1
The easiest way to is to use CrossTie, which automatically resolves the C++ dependency.
See the 4th Tip & Trick called: "Install IrfanView via CrossTie" tip.

The Visual Basic will not install automatically as the tip says, but I tried installing it from Other Applications. It completed the installation in the window and I clicked done, but it will not run, just as the Irfan will not run. I think Crossover does not work in Mountain Lion. Can you give me an exe from the list that will confirm proper operation? I might try 7zip.

Richard, unfortunately I do not have access to a Mountain Lion system but ...

(i) What you need to install is "Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable" not "Visual Basic", and

(ii) Did you try installing IrfanView using CrossTie as per instructions in 4th Tip & Trick here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=268;tips=1

...nothing to do with mountain lion - microsoft pulled
the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable from their
download center ; you need to find/download the package
separately before using the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0
Redistributable crosstie...

Hi ©, thanks for pointing out this problem!

Should this problem also be reported and if possible fixed in
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6851

So that crosstie works automatically, could we replace the link in the
CrossTie for Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable with the one below:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=9183

Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable is an application supported by
CodeWeavers, so hopefully a CodeWeaver staff is following this discussion.
If not, should we open a ticket on this issue?

Cheers

I'm following the conversation... actually several of the components that were removed have been put back into place. We're assessing that and updating CrossTies but we are a little hesitant (once bitten, twice shy!) to put things back in place only to have them pulled away again. I'll put MSVC++ 6 at the top of my list today and see what it does and then circle back to this title.

edit: this title is back up, MSVC++ 6 is indeed working still today.
