IE7 only shows a few websites after fresh install, all others: HTTP-error 400

http://www.microsoft.com results in HTTP-error 400

http://www.apple.com shows fine

Most websites result in HTTP-error 400.

Any ideas?

Jaap

HTTP 400 is a client-side error. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes#4xx_Client_Error

Unfortunately this error can occur for a number of reasons. Note this is an officially supported application, so if you've paid for support you can open a ticket. Otherwise here's my list of questions to help you get started troubleshooting:

  1. Does IE display any additional information with the HTTP 400 error?

  2. What version of CrossOver are you using? On what platform? (Mac/Linux.)

  3. Did you install via CrossTie into a separate bottle? Or did you manually install your "fresh" copy somehow?

  4. Do you use a proxy server?

Another option to help troubleshoot is to also install IE 6 into its own bottle. Then try browsing the same sites in both IE 6 and IE 7 and see if one works vs. the other. IE 6, despite being a much older browser, has a higher medal ranking of Silver. So if you get HTTP 400 errors in both IE 6 and IE 7, then the scope of your problem is not specific to IE 7.

Hope this helps...

Looking at using this software at my school, but all the internet is going through an auto-configuration script and IE won't let me save the auto configuration script in the settings, just the proxy server. the auto config has a pac/dat file that needed for authentication for some intranet sites. some details:
OS: Mac OS 10.6.8
Crossfire installed running a winxp bottle with ie7 installed from codeweavers through crosstie.
If you are able to help that would be awesome.
Cheers
Zac
