Joystick still not working on Mac?

I was surprised to find that I can use my USB joystick in Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, when I run it under CrossOver Games 9.0 Mac. Oddly, Il-2 still does not recognise any input device. Has anyone any idea why? Or how to fix this?

Hi,

I take it you've followed the instructions in this regard
in the tips&tricks section here? If not, do so ;)

Cheers!

I did this already. Doesn't help.

Hi to all,

I experience the same problem playing IL2 1946, no steam version, on my Mac
My MacBook Pro 15 inches does recognise my Saitek ST90, i use it a lot to fly in x-plane.

I have checked the box "use a joystick" in the IL2setup.exe, but i can't open the "Porperties" button next to the checkbox.
In IL2, when in the options, the game apparently recognises my Joystick, but dit doesn't control anything.
Isn't there any way to change the HOTAS of the game?

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for the info....I'm not really sure how viable it is
to change the HOTAS ...iirc, when I looked at it in linux, I
came away with the conclusion the whole joystick control &
options shizzle is all hardcoded into the game. Give me a couple
of days though - I'm currently having another HID drama in OSX
wrt xbox controllers, and once I get over that I think I'll get
a better grip of what exactly is going on...

Cheers!

Thanks for your answer,

I am currently re-re-installing IL2, i'll keep you informed of any news,

cheers,

Thibaud

Update:

M'kay...there is something wacky going on with HID input on OSX
(compared to linux...ie; in linux all games see my HIDs, in OSX some
games do not)...but I doubt this has anything to do with IL-2's woes.
It's just exampling the case wherein the HID/drivers actually do work
for some titles, not others, and be working in OSX at the same time...

In linux, IL-2 reliably sees my gameport connected skymaster stick,
but it can't see my USB xpad - a couple of other flight sims -do-
see the xpad joystick (one of them) and a few buttons, so it all
seems terribly app dependent....and somewhat mooted in time, wherein
USB didn't exist when the game was originally coded, and the 15pin
d-sub 'gameport' connected HIDs were all the go...

Update 2:

Okay, this is a bug that affects OSX - it's also an issue in

wine pure with OSX -- we've got a bug here now too that links everything
together, so hopefully one of the devs can have a look at it and find
the solution...

Ok thanks for the support, i can't wait to have a dev looking at that!

cheers,

Thibaud

I am having the same problem with no joystick showing up. Good to know this is a bug and I hope that it gets fixed, otherwise its off to bootcamp. Just bought il2:1946 and I darn well want to play it!

I've been one of the guys pushing to get joysticks working - by which I mean cheerleading for it, I'm not a dev! If you want to see, the bug page for it is here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18424

If you have a winehq account you can "vote" for the bug and raise its profile. Hopefully a wine-dev will notice!

EDIT: Ah ... I see Don already posted the link in another thread. Sorry for the duplication!

Hi again,

I just tested a patch provided by Jonas over at WineHQ, and it appears to
get joystick working in IL-2 & OSX in wine-1.3.xx -- checking over the patch,
it appears as though it should apply (and work) with the CXG-10.x release. If
anyone's interested in trying such out, give a shout here and I'll hoist a
pre-compiled dinput.dll.so library somewhere so you can try it and report back
if it worked (or not) for you...

Cheers!

edit: ooops, my mistake -- the patch will not work with CXG-10.x

Pity it doesn't work (yet) Don, but thanks for keeping us informed, hope you'll be able to do so when it starts paying off :)

..yeah...it wasn't until I went to compile it that I discovered
there's been some changes in devenum.c that aren't present in
the current CXG winebuild -- one of the current CXG nightly builds
should have the related code in it though (I think?) if you wanted
to test things out =)

Just tested IL-2 1946 in CrossOver XI, usb joystick (or in my case usb gamepad thumbsticks) is now recognized on a Mac.

It's not perfect, will need a lot of calibrating, but it does now work at least. Using 10.7.3 Lion, Mac mini 2,5 GHz i5, Radeon 6630.
