7-8-2010: Initial Testing of Installation

Downloaded the 30 day trial of Crossover 9.0.1 from the Codeweavers site.
Downloaded HST+ v61R7 from the TGHomeSoft site.
Since it’s a MAC that won’t use EXE files extracted the setup.exe and MSI files into a folder on a windows machine. Saved the files to a network share (thumb drive might work)

1st Trial:
Ran Crossover and left the default ‘bottle’
Clicked on use the Crossover Installer
Chose to install from file
Browsed to the setup.exe file on the network share and selected it.
Crossover prompted to specify an application. Since HST+ wasn’t listed, I chose Other Application under Unknown.
During the install process, .Net framework 2.0 began installing but eventually gave an error about failing to install ‘INSTALL_FAIL’

2nd Trial
Created a new ‘bottle’ and deleted the first for a clean environment
From the Crossover menu
1) Chose to install .net 2.0 prior to installing HST+ (Installed without error but it is listed twice in the application list now)
2) Chose to install MS Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1 (Installed without incident)
3) Chose to install MS Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (Installed without incident)
Installed HST+ from setup.exe again (Installed without incident)
Attempt to run HST+ from the application folder that popped up but got an error about hspmain.exe and asked to send a report to MS.

Consistently kicks out this error message (reproducible)

3rd Trial
Learned from my earlier mistake and created a new bottle
From the Crossover menu
1) Chose to install .net 2.0 prior to installing HST+ (Installed without error but it is listed twice in the application list now)
2) Chose to install MS Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1 (Installed without incident)
3) Chose to install MS Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (Installed without incident)
Made a copy of the bottle to use as a base template (archive option)
Installed HST by pointing to the MSI file
Install wizard pops up and walk through works fine. (Installed without incident)
Attempt to run HST+ gets an error exactly like trial 2.

Added this application to the Codeweaver site after my initial testing and applied as an advocate. Just now got some time to upload the original testing documentation and picture. Hopefully the picture link will be persistent. Plan on trying one of the beta releases over the course of the next few weeks.

Hi,

Beta releases don't last very long -- I think it's possible the crossover-9.1 releases
will be out inside 'the course of the next few weeks'. 8)

What you're seeing (error screenshot) is a .NET failure of some sort (mscorlib complaining)
but exactly what might be triggering the error is another matter...ie; it might not be .NET
failing perse - it could be a missing dependency or the actual version of .NET 2.0 being used.

If you could grab a debuglog of the error I might be able to help....see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/SubmitTechSupportLog

If you grab a log, upload it to a public repo like rapidshare or such, and then post the
download URL back to this forum so we can get it and have a look.

Cheers!

Thanks Don.

I have it on a temp site atm but will move it to something more permanent if necessary.

edit: I'll watch for the new release as well to test. Also have a CentOS and Ubuntu workstation I may test on if others eventually show interest.

Hi again,

Well, 9.1 is out now, so it might be prudent to check with the
final release first just to make sure things are still behaving
in the same manner. At a guess, I would try adding visual basic
6 redist and visual c++ 2005 redist into the same bottle to see
if that helps any....post back what you discover...

Cheers!
