Hi,
Umm...I think the short answer here, is we need to know what version
of crossover you are using, and which OS{version}/video card/chipset
(and if linux, video drivers) you are using and so on...the more complete
answer is something like...
Due to the fact it -is- the CD based release, you are likely going to
find it uses disc based DRM (copy-protection software), and you would
need to apply the official patch after the game itself is installed..

I think (going by your description) that's what you need to do here.
I'm not sure if it works for the GOTY edition ; it does work for the
original CD release of Half-Life...
For the most part, the disc releases of the Half-Life series have been
more or less deprecated by the online versions available via Steam..

I'm -not- saying you have to go that way - I'm just pointing out the fact.
I do have the CD release (not GOTY version), and it still works (after
applying the patch) -- that said, I cannot register it with Steam anymore,
and never use it, because it's actually worth more in pristine condition
in it's original packaging as a collectors' item for sale on eBay some day =)
...I figure, right, that I'm going to get more than $10 for the CD version
eventually when I do sell it, and the Steam release is only $10 anyhow, and
that's what I use when I want to play Half-Life. The added bonus in this
approach, is you end up with a Steam account, and, there are many, many games
available on Steam that work for us, because they don't have disc based DRM
mechanisms...ie; the CD/DVD release of a game doesn't work -- the same game
available from Steam (or other digital download games distributors) do work.
Hope this helps...
Cheers!
