The issue is that Steam registers itself as a handler for a new URL scheme, steam:. Currently, CrossOver does not export the URL scheme handling claims of Windows applications out to the Mac environment. Therefore, Firefox doesn't know where to deliver the steam: URLs.
There is a kludgy workaround. Using the debug features of CrossOver's Run Command dialog, you can pick a bottle and open a shell configured for issuing commands for it. In that shell window, you could then issue a command consisting of the word "cxstart", a space, and then paste the Steam URL. For example:
cxstart steam://blah/blah/blah/whatever
Unfortunately, after all of that, I don't believe that BioShock works with CrossOver, yet.
Unfortunately, running the command
cxstart steam://hardwarepromo/305
on my Mac doesn't do anything but return me to the command line.
This is in a shell configured to access the bottle with Steam in it? In other words, open the Run Command dialog, select the bottle with Steam in it from the pop-up, and then click Open Shell.
Still, the Steam hardware promos are known to cause trouble for CrossOver. In our experience, they pop up a dialog saying that the promo doesn't apply (or something like that) and then Steam hangs.
