HL2 Chapter 9a freezes

I'm running HL2 on my MacBook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz. I installed Leopard last weekend and HL2 ran great all week. Until I reached Chapter 9a that is.

The first problem was a freeze on loading just before Gordon Freeman and Alyx meet up with Judith Mossman in Nova Prospekt. I got past this one by changing all of my video settings to low and changing them back after the load.

All was good again until the teleportation sequence in the next room where I get a freeze during the teleportation animation. This one occurs during gameplay, not during the load. I tried changing the settings and adding -nosound to the launch options, but no good. These are the launch options I've used so far: -novid -console -dxlevel 80

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I tried again this morning with the same settings and got past the teleportation animation (yay!). Now, after about an hour of play I get textures whiting out and enemies that are invisible except for their gunfire. I restarted CrossOver and it looks normal again for about an hour, then more whiteouts.

Is there something about his part of the game? I hope I'm not hurting my MBP by running it so hard..

I doubt it explains all of the issues you're seeing, but with Nvidia-based Macs (including newer MacBook Pros), there's a known issue when the shader detail setting is set to High. We recommend that you keep it at Low.

The tendency for it to whiteout after a period of playing, but then being fine if you restart, suggests a leak of video memory. That might be a bug that Stefan could take a look into.

Ray, which crossover version are you using? The whiteout or similar texture loss issues were a problem that somtimes occurs in Crossover 6.0. It should be fixed in 6.1 / 6.2.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get through the rest of Episode 1 today with more crashes every hour or so.

I've had my shader detail setting on low and I've been using the latest version of CrossOver.
