Known problems thread

Maybe we could collect up any known problems here? I realize that most of them have to do with WINE, not CX, but it's still useful...

1) shadows display rectangles where they intersect with the ground -- not always, but often. They appear to be bounding boxes, which suggests that a possibility is that there's a flag on them that renders them invisible in D3D but not WINE.

2) decals (eg blood spatter and bullet holes) have clipping problems that make them progressively appear with portions clipped off.

3) after starting from a load or Loading between "sub-levels" the screen often goes white and the sound starts looping for about 5 seconds. Causes no problems, just a bit annoying.

4) water shows a band of white around its edge. If the edge is vertical (ie, a pool) then the line is thin and almost invisible, but if it is a puddle or stream then the "feathered" edge between the water and ground has this white edge for a couple of in-game inches.

Anyone else?

Hi,

Yeah, the problems are known. Some of them are our fault indeed:

1) That one is known, and it's Wine's fault(thus ours)

2) This one is a HL2 / radeon driver bug, I have seen it on Windows too. I think HL2 depends on two floating point numbers beeing equal, which is a bad style of working with floats. It may or may not work depending on your card's precision.

3) This is a MacOS driver "bug". When using the AUX0 or AUX1 buffer the first time for offscreen rendering, the screen goes white and the system freezes for a short time

4) This is a problem of hl2 in dxlevel 80 / 81. It occurs on Windows too, in the same way. DXlevel 90 has the same issue, but it's less visible. This happens because HL2 uses environment bump mapping to sample from the refraction texture, and comes accross the boarders of the texture.
