Half-life2 single player, CXMac 6.0.0, not really working yet

I've been trying for days to get through the single player game, with no success. The problem lies in the fact that the game crashes so frequently that play is nearly impossible. Many times, the game crashes between levels, forcing the player to start at an earlier point (because the save at the end of the level never finished). Also, there are routine crashes in level, often with a dialog "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime" - This application has asked to be terminated in an unusual way. This has occurred 8 times in game up to the last level of "Anticitizen One".

My command line is conservative - taken from the "tips and tricks " and the Forum. Advanced graphics settings are set to Medium, or low if medium isn't available as an option. It's running on an Imac core duo system with 1GB ram, 250GB drive and 17" display at 1440x900.

I haven't experienced a Fraction of these crashes, not a single instance, in native mode (home edition) on the same hardware, with the same resolution and significantly higher quality settings. With higher quality settings I was unable to get past the opening chapter Under Crossover for Mac.

If asked for specific information, I'll be happy to provide it - just let me know where to look to find it.

I'd have to downgrade my rating of this game to "not working" now however, as the current version of CX MAC isn't able to run it reliably yet.

It has been working better for me on our systems here. When playing games some of the same tips apply as when running on a PC. Close any apps you have running in the background. The VC++ error you see is related to CrossOver requesting a memory region that may not be available as some other app is using it. Some systems seem more suceptable to this issue. Our Mac Pro seems to crash more often that our iMacs/MacBooks do. These are issues we are looking into.

I have been playing the game on my MacBook Pro (1.83 single core) without crashes. However, I do have graphics issues related to shading that are very annoying.

Basically anything that can be moved or otherwise interacted with (barrels, pieces of wood, etc.) do not respect the lightning conditions in which they exist. This results in bright, almost as if giving off light themselves, objects that kinda ruin the experience.
When I move these objects bu pushing or shooting at them, the shading is correct. It only effects static objects.

My second, minor, issue is with lightning sources, which have a white box with a cross through at the center (bulbs, ambient light sources). this box can be seen through walls.

Only when these, particularly the shading thing, are fixed do I consider HL2 support to be complete and pledgeworthy. Please shout if you need more information.
