I got steam and half life 2 installed, went a little too fast considering that in windows it took 30mins.
but when you try to load halflife 2, steam or CS source.
it crash's with an exception error via wine......
so, if we could get that fixed, I reckon it'd direct x personally......but it's installed on my machine, I'm running mandrake 10.1 with kernel 2.6(stock)
Right, steam works fine under CrossOver 4.1, see the Steam entry in the DB. Also, all the Half-Life 1 engines all work just fine in Steam. It's because of our lack off good Direct3D support, that Half-Life 2 does not work currently.
On the bright side, there is alot of good Direct3D work going on in Wine these days, so keep your fingers crossed and maybe we'll have a more functional implementation in time for CrossOver 5.0.
Sorry if I shouldn't be posting something about a 'rival' product here, but transgaming's cedega (used to be WineX) is capable of playing halflife2 and a host of other games.. It's got near-complete DX7 & 8 support and they are slowly starting to implement DX9 support (remember, DX9 is not a requirement for Halflife2.. just recommended).
All I have to say is at least you have the opportunity to post
about a 'rival' and not to mention post as Anonymous Coward here.
There forums are locked out to anyone besides there customers!
I guess they thought the would get only nice happy happy post
but if you read over there forums you will soon see this ins't the case.

And they find every mod under the sun for a game that does work and
they tack that on as a working game!!
I would guess maybe 25 games work at this time with there MD 20/20
brand of Wine.
