Just wanted to let you guys know that I found a way to get it running on macbooks, it only works for me when I add the argument -console to the launch options. Hope this helped.

The main thing that adding -console does, as far as fixing crashes, is to suppress the animated background behind the main menu. If the animated background causes a crash, it can probably be fixed by changing the in-game video settings. Of course, using -console is necessary the first time in order to access the video settings.
A likely cause of the crash is with the Shader detail setting. Try setting that to low.
You probably want to go to the trouble of finding which setting helps avoid the crash because -console may only push the crash to another time. In other words, it won't happen at startup because of -console, but you may eventually encounter a point in the game where the crash reappears because of the in-game graphics used at that point.
