my experience in 6.2 - mostly good with some stability problems

In 6.2 on my Macbook Pro it loads okay (starts with a warning about my graphics drivers but runs anyway) and most of the gameplay is without problem. Every once in a while though, it will hang in the middle of some movement with the sound looping forever.. it seems to happen just after new stuff has loaded or cached becomes active or something. It hasn't happened in the middle of battles is the main thing. But the hangs have either required me to force quit Steam, Crossover, and wineloader (to finally kill the audio loop) - or it has frozen my whole system! I haven't determined what circumstance would be causing this.

Otherwise I'm getting good playability. The only odd slowdowns are with rocky places (like after you fight the giant antlion that butts you to death and the following combine.. that rocky pit where you enter a building for more air duct crawling) - similar to the slowness I found at the cliffside in Lost Coast.

All my Steam games still seem to be loading slowly and Episode One is no exception. But then, steam games loaded slow on my old Windows PC too.

If your entire system hangs then this suggests problems in the driver, macos kernel or some kernel extensions. Crossover shouldn't be able to crash your system because it is a user mode application, and it is MacOS' job to prevent it from doing harm. Does your macbook have a geforce 8 card? We're having a lot of trouble with those drivers ☹️

We know about crashes when loading new parts of the maps. They happened in Crossover 6.0, but they are supposed to be fixed since 6.1. Did you install Steam with the normal Steam installation profile, or did you install it as an unsupported application?

Just Steam hangs.. I've found with further playing that when it hangs, I can click out to the Crossover menu bar and get the Manage Bottles window to Force Quit that bottle. Then I can re-open Steam and try again.

My Macbook does have that card, the GeForce 8600M GT. Also as of this post, I'm referring to 6.2.1, which I'd just updated to. I'd originally installed Steam through the Supported Apps method.

One area where it's hanging so much I can't get past, is the outside train ride.. after you kill the three legged walker and when the tower is supposed to blow up. In three tries it's frozen at different points but all pretty much right after you get out of the tunnel that the helicopter thing falls into.

Yes, I have been having the same problems. With me it doesn't only occur with ep1, though, but also all the other Half-Life 2 games (not all valve games!). Usually I can get out of it, but sometimes the sound loops forever, even when Crossover has been stopped, Steam has been stopped and the game has been stopped. The only remedy is restarting.
