All the buttons seem to be working fine except for when i press enter to type. instead of letting me type a message it maximizes my screen weirdly and it wont let me type anything in the chat box.
Any ideas?

What platform are you using, Mac or Linux?
If you go into Guild Wars' options screen where you can configure your keys, what is Enter assigned to? You can try assigning it to a different command, and it will tell you what it's currently assigned to. Then you can just cancel the assignment without actually changing anything.
