Guild Wars Unplayable

As part of the Free software offer yesterday, I downloaded Crossover Games to attempt to play Guild Wars on my Mac. However, the graphics glitches are so severe that it is unplayable. I am running Mac OSX 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro.

Jeffrey,
Welcome to the Guild Wars forum!

May I suggest or ask if you have searched the forum for your issue or a similar one? I vaguely remember a posting about maybe two weeks ago about Mac and Guild Wars graphics. If this doesn't help I am sure one of the Mac players will respond when they can.

Sincerely,
David

Have you read this yet?

If not, see if any of those help you.

HTH,
David

All references beforehand have been specifically with the iMac. I have searched and tried all workarounds mentioned (for the iMac). The Apple Discussion even specifically limits it to the iMac afaik from what I read. My issue is on a MacBook Pro. The issue looks to be very similar to the one in this thread. I've noticed that sometimes the login page will have a perfect background but all the news and login windows are not showing, or are glitched. Sometimes the login page is perfect, but everytime I enter the game, all the graphics are messed up. All the textures flicker and change shapes. All the UI elements are completely screwy.

This thread could possibly be the same issue, but I could not view the images to compare. One person said that the unsupported 7.1.2 CO Games fixed the issue. I have no access afaik to this version to test if it fixes my issue as well.

Jeffrey, you should be able to download unsupported builds(see the cxgames product page). Other than that, can you post some screenshots somewhere?

I must be missing it, but I don't see a place to download unsupported builds other than the My Downloads section of My Account. However, this ability is not available at the moment. I just tried to do some screen captures of the login screen, but the weirdest thing keeps happening on the login screen. The graphics keep glitching, but when I activate Grab in order to get a screenshot it stops glitching. However, after the screenshot captures, it continues to glitch. It only stops while Grab is actively trying to grab a screenshot either by window, selection, or whole screen. When in-game, this does not happen (it glitches constantly). Here are the screenshots from in-game (they don't really do the glitching justice because it flickers the whole time, in one of them you can't even see the rock blocking out my character at all due to the capture occurring while the rock was "phased" out):

Guild War Glitch Images

The screenshots are all in window form due to the ease of doing it, as well as the inability to reliably switch into full screen since I can't read a glitchy options menu.

if you trying to capture the glitches graphic issues on screenshot, try shift+command+3 (or 4). by the way, this thing also happen to me on my mbp and my 20" iMac. i think the issue is the x1600 card. things are fine on my 7300 GT 24" iMac and 8600 GT iMac 20" though.

aren't macbook pros all nvidia? btw, nvidia acknowledged there was a hardware defect in their 8600m line that is fitted on the MBPs. Apple repairs them on the spot. maybe yours is affected?

not all. nvidia was introduced to macbookpro this year. mine was bought last year with 2.33GHz C2D, 2GB Ram (now 3GB) and ATi x1600 with 256MB memory.

For what it's worth - Guild Wars looks the same on my MBP as it does on Jeffrey's. My MBP is one year old as well - ATI card.

I do, indeed, have the ATI x1600. Due to the response, the issue seems to be related to this particular card.

I got my registration code today, so I was able to download the 7.1.2 unsupported. It works flawlessly, minus the mouse bug where the cursor disappears somewhere after playing for more than 3 hours.
