Invisible characters?

I haven't seen any other posts about this issue yet. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I had GW2 running on Crossover pretty well for a while. A few character models were a little glitchy, but the game was still perfectly playable. However, with the latest GW2 update, every character and creature in the game is now completely invisible. The game is entirely unplayable now, since I have no idea where my character or enemies are.

I'm not terribly upset by this, since glitches often come and go with updates. I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar problem or knows of any way to sort it out.

What OS / distro / graphics hardware are you running on, out of curiosity?

I'm using Mac OS 10.6.7 on a Macbook Pro with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics card.

Is every player invisible or just some and if you near them they show up?
In GW2 there is a "feature" they name culling. Not every player is shown. Only the players ner you are shown.
In WvW is this extreme bad, because you only see 10 people fighting on a battlefield where 100 fighting.
They say the reason for this system ist to balance the server load and make the game run better on low end systems.

with the update that is coming in march they will deaktivate this for WvW. Then you only the low res chars und placeholders in big battles.

Every single character is 100% invisible, including my own.

Have you tested it with the latest wine Version?
PlayOnMac is a nice gui for wine. http://www.playonmac.com/en/
If all s good with wine, then maybe you have luck with the next CrossOver Update, wich brings a new wine Version.

Also tryd differend grapich options? deactivate HiRes Char Models etc...

I'm somewhat surprised it was ever working well for you with this card. Did you suffer from a bug where in-game rain effects would show up as huge, terrible white streaks across your screen that made any area where it was raining unplayable?

Cloud and rain effects were sometimes poorly rendered, but I could still play the areas alright. There were several minor glitches like that before the update, though I could always play the game well enough. I never really expected the thing to run flawlessly with my system. It is disappointing that the invisibility issue makes it completely unplayable, though.

I had an issue in Lion Arch (the pirates cave in the north west) where one of the traders was invisible for me, but I could see the armourer sign above him, he got visible after I had clicked on him. This with cx 12.5.1 and a nvidia gt8600 (nvidia-drivers-319.49).

Navigation in the cave is kind of impossible, this due of the heavy white fog and I have tried the registry hack, no difference. (sorry to hijack this thread for a unrelated question) this excessive fog, is it card related or more in general? I saw some early notions about this that it was more common on the 8600 cards. I'm kind of thinking of getting a gtx760 if it would lessen the issue.

That card seems a bit old for GW2 anyway. That said, have you tried using the official Mac Beta Client from ArenaNet? It's probably quite a bit better than trying to use wine or crossover to run it.

I am running on an nVidia 760 GTX and the game works great. All the drivers work fine from 319.6 to the new 331.* beta ... right now I am just sticking 325.15 drivers. I have never had an invisible character issue. One thing I have noticed is that when I do crash it sends to ArenaNet that I am running on a 8800 GTX with 768 video Ram ... kind of odd ... and completely unrelated to your question. Back on topic, 760 works great.
