Mac Client available in beta

Installing it now
image

Only if your system meets the minimum specifications :( . Nevertheless, gonna try it to see if it works , fingers crossed ...

The system requirements seem a little high. I'm running a 2010 13" MBP with a core 2 duo and it runs fine on Windows. I'm downloading it now, so hopefully it will work.

I'm installing it now too. I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook 13". I hope it works because I was unable to get GW2 to install on my MacBook, even though I was successful on my old 2008 iMac, which is a little slow. I'm hoping frame rates and playability are better on my MacBook but I am worried about heat. My MacBook's fan turns on with processor-intensive applications and it gets hot.

Ok, first impressions:

Runs smooth only with lowest details on my i7 MBP late 2011, 4G RAM. If virtually any graphics setting is tweaked to medium, the game is unplayable. Gonna try it on iMAC when I get home and post results

Yep just saw this. I've got a core 2 duo 2009 Pro so hoping it runs. Runs fine in windows though so...

It's a Cider port. These are better than nothing, but I wish Codeweavers got a piece of this. It would make wine better and help out a pretty great company.

I noted this as well when an OS X alert window asked, "Do you want the application 'wineserver' to accept incoming network connections?"

I am going to write to Arena Net and ask they they put effort into helping Codeweavers and not re-invent the wheel themselves.

Works great on i5 iMAC 2011, 3.1Ghz, 1G Radeon, 8G RAM

Did a little test drive this evening. Happy guy here :) . I'm using this on an

  • iMac 2,66 2 duo
  • Mac OS X 10.6.8
  • 4 gb ram memory
  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro - 32mbit pixel depth - 1680 x 1050 resolution - vram 256

I'm hoping it will run on my computer as well. I have a late 2009 macbook pro, Intel core duo. Those of you running the same let us know how it runs, please!

I'm currently downloading so I'll tell you guys if it works, also...in about ten hours once everything finishes downloading and patching, ha ha

Mid 2012 MacBook Air with Intel HD4000 GPU here :)
The Framerate is very dependent on the environment and reaches from ~15fps when heavy weather has to be displayed in the open world to ~25fps in buildings where nothing special happens.
The results are therefore between 9-11fps using Crossover or Wine and ~35fps which I could expect using the native client with Windows according to benchmark results on different sites.
Mouse and function keys are also working fine.

For those who do not want to redownload the whole thing:
the Gw2.dat file is located in
/Applications/Guild Wars 2.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/GW2
You may either simply copy your current Gw2.dat or, to save diskspace, create a link to it, which involves the command line.

I'm noticing significant differences in graphics and fps. The graphics are nearly flawless now, and my fps got bumped from around 10-15 on lowest resolution with crossover to 30-40 fps with the second highest resolution on arenanet's client. I'm definitely sticking with this in the future. Still haven't had the time to try out for example WvW and see how well this client handles big groups of people, because with crossover my fps was always around 2-3 in big battles rendering me completely useless.

I think a petition should be made.

Edit: I've made one here, I can edit the petition upon any request. Please sign and ask others to sign!

while noble, i doubt the majority of mac players want to pay for another program on top of GW2 already. It's fine for players who already own crossover, but to force every mac player to get crossover? isn't that a little much?

now if its simply working in tandem with crossover the way they are doing the cider port, i can understand this, but since they already have a partner, it would take a lot of work on both sides to create the GW2 platform for mac all over again, since they already have a beta version for the mac.

it's just a lot to ask in my opinion.

I'm downloading it right now.
Hopefully going to play it at a:

Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2,53GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9400M, 256mb

Anyone got the same machine? Like to hear if it worked! 😊

I've got 2.8 GHz, but apart from that i have everything that you have.

the game works amazingly, i havent run into any of the problems i have with the crossover version (except the trading post has been in maintenence since i got the mac version, i dont know if they've run into a problem with the two interfaces interlinking or not). and i have OS 10.6.8, so its working quite good in my opinion considering i dont meet all the requirements.

I tried it out on my early 2011 MacBook and it works very well, much better than the Crossover version. It does cause the fan to run constantly however, which I don't like so I decided to download it to my old 2008 iMac. I was very happy to find that it runs almost as we'll as my MacBook. It is leaps and bounds better than the Crossover version. I'm sorry, for Crossover's sake, to report this but Crossover has many other programs and games that it is offering so I'm sure they will not suffer from the situation. I am very thankful to them for providing the opportunity to play GW1 for the many years that I did without having to reboot under BootCamp. Crossover is a great program!

Reporting very good results for the early 2008 17" MacBook Pro here.

Specs:
Early 2008 MacBook Pro 17"
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB Graphics Card

My system doesn't match the system requirements for the game at all, but it runs better than the crossover implementation. I was having the atmospheric transparency issues as well as right-click-drag for camera movement issues that most were reporting. I now have no problem with either. I can even get into the Black Lion Trading Post now!

I've set the graphics settings to "Best Performance" just because it makes my laptop run really hot (180 degrees Fahrenheit). The only problem that I've seen with it so far is that it doesn't recognize my mouse's scroll wheel in game interface, so I can't scroll in inventory, etc. If that's the only problem I'm seeing, then I'm a happy camper.

I wasn't going to even try it, but some others reported that the beta worked on Snow Leopard, regardless of the specs on the site saying "OS X 10.7 or better". Glad I gave it a shot.

To fix the scroll issue, there is an option to toggle the Mac Scroll gestures in the interface menu. Turn that off, and your mouse scroll should work again. :)

Doesn't run brilliantly on my 2009 13" MacBook Pro, but it's playable and a lot better than the beta game was in crossovers.
Didn't notice any glitches while playing, but not had a thorough play-through on it.

Just got a new Mac, hope this works better. Installing now!

The Mac client works extremely well for me. Haven't had any issues with it.

Works great on my Mac Pro 2009. Dual Quad Xeons, 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon 5770.

I run it on a MBP 15 Inch Early 2011 with 2.2 Quad i7 Radeon 6750 really fine. It is just minimal slower than the Windows Version.
I also run it on a Hacktosh Server with i3 and Geforce 410. It runs ok on low details.
In fact it´s not that different to Crossover, because it also uses an Wrapper. The pro is, that it´s officially supported.
