Petition ArenaNet to Consider Development Alongside The Wine Project

I am sure that you are all aware that ArenaNet has partnered with TransGaming to "bring" Guild Wars 2 to OS X. But what practically all users who will be playing Guild Wars 2 on their Apple machines won't realize, as history shows us, is the fact that this "release" would not have been possible without the efforts of the Wine project, and that they are, indirectly, using Wine software to play this game.

Ipso facto many believe that ArenaNet should have chosen to develop along side the Wine project, and had they made this decision, any platform capable of running Wine would in turn be able to run Guild Wars 2, not just OS X.

If you agree with what has been stated, and would like to help a cause make this happen before it is too late, please sign THIS ONLINE PETITION.

Also, spread the word so we may see change sooner.

... Cider does -not- use X11 however, and thus was unaffected
by the macos 10.7.5/10.8.2 updates - all other software out
there based on WINE was broken by same ; this will be one of
many points that won't be overlooked by arenanet...(especially
considering the timing of things, here)...

... not that I disagree with what you say, but, demonstrated
realities always count more in the commercial world, over that
of idealized ones.. =)

Another issue with this idea...
Anet is a large company owned by NCSOFT.
Wine is open source software.
GW2 running on wine is largely managed by people out in the "community", not by a company (You could try and argue for codeweavers, but they rely on the things those in the wine community do and figure out as well I believe)

It just isn't feasible for a company who has to maintain a certain air of professionalism and manage their product in the most stable way to rely on something like Wine.
What your suggesting also is that because they're using Cider they need to give credit to Wine, but Cider/the port is managed through transgaming who most obviously have a right to do so and are actually doing so very well. There are plenty of other games out there who use transgaming/cider (Sims 3 on mac for one) and they certainly don't have to give credit anywhere else. They're paid transgaming so realistically why should they?

I'm really sorry, I don't mean to attack or anything but what you propose is just very unrealistic.

Oh for me it is a fact, that transgaming do "some work". But they have not much manpower or people with background knowledge. I think this because there innovation in there Linux support was at the last two years really bad. I spent some money, maybe 200 Dollar at all time, i be a purchaser of transgaming product and i just saw that they only developed the Cider-Port. It seems they sell Companies there port as a service, of cause after they know that a game work nearly perfectly with the Open Source Wine.

This conduct is economic and efficiently, to place menpower in an aspect of an issue you know how to solve before you start the work. I belief really that Codeweaver should earn the respect and the money, because codeweavers support wine, and in a complete review an all the time they do more than trainsgaming ever did for the games at all.

So i wish for you mac-users that they solve some issues and that they gain a version equivalent to windows with the same fps. My experience with transgaming in the past interrupt my dream, bring me back to the ground and say: That will never be.

So i see the Guild Wars 2 Mac Client in a sad light.

I signed your petition but dont hold your breath , when it comes to petitions involving linux ports of popular windows games they never seem to be successful. However all hope is not lost when steam for linux premiers i expect they (Arena) will probably have fully working linux and mac Guild Wars 2 clients when the game begins to sell on steam like the original did. Unfortunately this could still be years away.
