A lot of bugs. Requiring assistance if it solves.

Hey guys,

So I bought Guild Wars 2 so I can participate in the beta event which is currently being hosted (July 20). Installation was fine, I encountered the similar minor problems like everyone (the one where it crashes at 4%).

I first log in the game, however it kept giving me an error so I decided to just restart my Macbook (late 2009 model, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 Gb 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA Geforce 320M 256mb + Lion OSX). After the restart, it finally worked. I got in the game, created the character but now I'm starting to have all the similar problems the CX community is having with the white rain and minor stretching. I tried with the Sylvari race and it's even worse because it is all blue lighting, which I think is most likely the mist. Therefore, it is impossible to play because I can't see. I was able to pass that area and got in an Outpost but problems still persist. The graphics are set to its lowest but it is really awful because it doesn't look anything like what I see in one of the post about the known bugs. It is not even close to GW1 graphics. Moreover, I am not able to rotate my camera with right-click for some reason.

Due to that, I would like to ask for help on how to solve this. I tried following instructions from the other post but it doesn't seem to work; most likely because I didn't do it properly. If you need me to provide anything, please tell me. Thank you.

Unfortunately there are a lot of issues with NVIDIA graphics cards and Guild Wars 2 through Crossover at the moment.
Camera rotation isn't working at the moment but it has in previous beta events so hopefully that can be fixed easily.

Remember firstly that this is a beta so graphics performance will most likely be changed at least a little bit before launch.
But you also have to remember that you're playing through Crossover on your mac which isn't supported by Arenanet.
If the graphics and performance is really unplayable then I suggest you buy a copy of Windows and install Guild Wars through bootcamp.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I guess I won't be able to enjoy the last beta event, but I will try to see what the game offers. I do have faith in Crossover, considering they have ported many games and they ported GW1, which works flawlessly on my Mac. I'm sure it must have taken some time to fix GW1, therefore the perfected version of GW2 should come soon enough, right?

I'd like to use Boot Camp but I have several concerns, the first obviously being the cost but my other concern is if I'm using Windows while on Mac, will I be able to control my fan? Right now, I have an app that controls my fan and I put it at 6124 RPM so that my laptop stays between 60-65 degrees Celcius, without it, my mac would surely overheat.

As of this moment, I'd really like to stick with Crossover because I just bought the program and I don't want to spend over 100$ over Windows just to play one game. I'm sure Crossover will fix the bugs in GW2 through the program :)

One more thing.

Is there a way to put all the data that I downloaded from GW2 onto 1-2 disc or USB? Because I can't seem to figure how.

What do you mean by putting it onto a usb or disk?
You can just drag your GW2 folder onto a USB (would have to be a large USB, the game is over 15GB in size).

I've been trying to search for where my GW2 folder is placed, but only appears when I check through running the command using Crossover in my "Library". Other than that, I can't exactly locate the file, which is quite odd.

Where did you initially run the GW2.exe file from to install??

Hmm... well I remember using Crosstie but I think I ran it from the program files using Crossover. I tried searching for it on my HDD but I can't seem to find it anywhere, and in fact, it doesn't display the amount of storage the game is occupying.

Most of the bugs (sans the camera angle bug) are documented in the stickied topic. We are triaging all of them (even the camera angle issue) but it is very difficult to resolve any of the bugs with short windows of game play. We continue to work on Guild Wars 2 and would like to add support for it upon release but at this time we cannot guarantee that support will be added. In the stickied topic we have provided instructions on how to supply us with the information we need to address each issue and we continue to gather that information both from users and in-house as the BWEs allow.

Let's see if I can address the other questions in this thread.

Using Boot Camp means that you would install a full version of Windows on a partition of your Mac. When you boot into Windows you would have all of the tools that a Windows installation provides for you and yes there are tools available for controlling your hardware directly. Please understand that installing Windows also means that you will need to install virus protection software and take all of the standard precautions a Windows installation requires.

Yes, you can put all of the downloaded content onto an external drive to transfer or preserve it. However, it may be better to just download the data a second time upon release of the game. I say this because much of the content may change prior to the full release. Preserving the data from the beta may not save you much time. Regardless... if you are running Lion you will need to hold down the option key while accessing the "Go" drop down menu from the "Finder" menu. From there (user level "Library"), the path is "Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/nameofbottle/drive_c/Program Files/Guild Wars 2" (assuming you followed the installation instructions).

Hi,

Thank you for the tips, it was really helpful! As for Guild Wars 2, I will keep on using Crossover because I have no intention of installing Boot Camp with a Windows OS because of the cost and the fact that I am in a very comfortable state where I can play certain games as well as use my Mac OS at the same time. For now, I will wait until things will be patched considering I remember seeing a video of a person play GW2 with Wine but on Linux. I understand your staff now needs the actual release to fix things so I understand the amount of time, however long it is, to make GW2 seamlessly play on CX.

I'm positive your team will get it right! I mean, GW is functioning flawlessly on CX, so why couldn't GW2? I know there isn't any guarantee, but keep up the good work! I will supply any type of information from my part to the thread to support your endeavours.
