Works on Linux with CrossOver Games 9.2 - some extra files needed

Like on so much other Windows Games, the CD-Protection won't work right now ☹️

What you need is:
M$ DirectX Runtime - Modern
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0
M$ DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
With the Web Installer will be much more files installed, which are needed.

Hi Gerard,

I'm trying to install this game in my mac using CrossOver Games 9.2.0 with a XP bottle but I get some errors.

First, I've installed from the Runtime support components list the .NET Framework 3.0 and the M$ DirectX Runtime - Modern but I've not be able to find the M$ DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer so I've got it from this url
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displayLang=en but when I try to install it a popup says that there was an error and the installations is cancelled. Looking in the log files I've found this:

...

The second error appears when the game installation is completed. The error is this: The game task information is missing! Please check your GDF file and reinstall the game again!. I have no idea with this.

At this point I try to run the game with the Gray Matter.app launcher but the application quits unexpectedly after some seconds.

When the installer ends It suggests to install the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 and DirectX so I've installed that software from the game image.

After that I obtain a distinct error when I try to run the game and appears a message that says "Installing necessary components":

You must to do a driver update. Restart the system and try it again. (#10000)

I force a simulated reboot and when I run the game a message shows this exception:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D, Version=1.0.2902.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002

And then I can continue or quit the application. If I choose to continue a window with the graphics configuration appears but it has some blank fields and the non-blank fields throw an error when I choose an option.

Please, I've seen that there are some preset configurations to different applications in the wine configuration tool, can you tell me if I have to configure the bottle with any specific parameters for this game? And do you think that the FileNotFoundException is because I've not installed the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7558

First install directx9runtime modern from the 'runtime support components'
area of the Crossover installer....next...install the above via the C4P
profile to get the missing assemblies, then install all the other bits as
needed....

Hope this helps...

Cheers!

Thank you very much Don!

The game runs perfectly. There's only an error when I close the game, crossover quits too but no matter.

Thank you very much once again!

For me it installs fine, i can run the game but i do get an error when exiting. My only problem so far is the sound. Music seems to work ok, the voices however does not work. I can hear them but they are all distorted and stuttering.

Sometimes I had the same problems. After shutdown Pulseaudio (in KDE) it worked fine. Maybe this will help?

Hello. I am using Crossover Games for Linix version 10.0. I am looking for the CP4 file mentioned here for the Gray Matter game installation. I can't find it. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Krisin

Hi Kristin, he meant the C4P Files for DirectX Modern & Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, described above.
Till now there is no C4P-File for Gray Matter (never tried to make one)

Hi,

Yes, that's correct wrt what I was saying -- regarding a c4p/crosstie profile
for this title, I can create such if I had the relevant data. What I need is the
installedkeypattern -or- installeddisplaypattern ; anyone who has this title can
supply this data, by following the instructions on the following page ..;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/intermediatec4ps

You can see the Mac/linux commands required in the beginning portion of the section
'Application Profile'. I may need to know some other points... ie; was it a DVD based
install, Steam, other etc etc, but primarily speaking I need the above data first.

If nobody else wants to do an install profile for this app, and somebody else can
provide the data needed, I'd be happy to oblige =)

Cheers!

I'll take a try to make the C4P, but it will take up to the weekend 😊

Kewl, if you have any questions or such, feel free to ask =)

HI, I'm VERY new to crossover, which I am trying out primarily to get Gray Matter working on my mac. I am having the same issues as Fran above had, but I don't (yet) have the know how to take the steps suggested by Don.

I'm using a retail version of the game if that makes a difference

Can anybody give me the idiots guide?

Thnaks in advance

Richard Powell

edit: Never mind. Got it fixed.

I've created a CrossTie/C4P based on the information on this thread. Please let me know if you face any issues. I was able to test it on a Mac. Thanks for all the details.

..I notice the tie you created is leveled against CXG-9.2 ;
was the profile actually tested in CXG-9.2? If not, the
crosstie version should be changed accordingly...

Yep, I tested the CrossTie with 10 C4P with 9.2

HI, I'm having issue with this cross tie.
I had an early 2011 Macbook Pro, had installed crossover and Gray Matter. Everything worked perfectly, including sound. Then my Mac was stolen. I just got a new computer - one of the new Retina Macbook Pros. I recovered everything via TimeMachine. Gray Matter worked but there was no sound.
When the game loaded I got the following error message in a pop up box labeled "Microsoft xAudio2"
"CPU does not meet minimum requirements. Streaming SIMD extensions support required."

I trying reinstalling the directsx via the Manage Bottles\ Applications menu. The same error was encountered during the install. THen on the advice of Crossover support, I archived the bottle, deleted it and reinstalled. Same results.
THen Crossover sent a software upgrade notice, so thinking it might help I applied up update. Same results.
So I completely deleted the game and Crossover and reinstalled everything from scratch. Same errors during install, but now th game won't even load. Crashes while loading.

Someone please help. I can provide screen shots and install logs as needed. I can't believe the new Intel chips don't support their own SIMD extensions.

Hi,

I'm trying to run Gray Matter under Yosemite on a late 2013 iMac. After installing the game and Microsoft.Net Compact Framework v.2.0 and DirectX I get the error message that necessary system driver had to be updated and that I should restart the system (#10000).
A restart does not help, I keep getting the same message again.
Are there any files I need to download to make the game run?
Kind regards
Horst
