Grand Theft Auto V Forum

Not much to say aside from the title of the thread. Yesterday it worked fine. I updated to macOS 12.3 overnight (also updated Xcode, not sure if that could be relevant), and launched the game again today, thrice so far. I have it set to load straight into story mode (not online), and it crashes after the first few seconds of gameplay. Let me know how I can help pinpoint the problem further.

Crossover Version 21.2~b1 (21.2.0.33922)
Heroic Version 2.2.3 (2.2.3)
M1 Max, 64GB

So today I used those few seconds to open the menu and go to GTA Online. Logged into the game just fine, and was able to run around for about 15 seconds, and when it froze, it gave me a graphical glitch (have screenshot, where can I upload?), but the car radio kept playing and I could still hear the rain sounds. It remained in this frozen state (in the background, after I switched to desktop, but still playing audio) for about two minutes, and then the application crashed completely.

I updated to 12.3 and I've been able to play GTA V with no problem, so I'm not sure what to tell you :/

I figured since I was getting graphical glitches before the crash, it must have something to do with graphics settings. After turning everything to low/off, it didn't crash on me. I guess macOS 12.3 is more demanding on the GPU, which made my game crash. I don't know. Either way, I will keep experimenting with the settings and see what is causing the crashing.

So in the end, GTA V Online crashes more frequently, compared to GTA V Story Mode with the same graphical settings. Two settings that have the biggest effect on this are Textures and Shaders. I basically have to turn textures down to normal and shaders to high, or vice versa, for Online to play without crashing. In Offline, I am able to set both to Very High, and it only crashes when underwater.
(I have population diversity and distance scaling turned all the way up, as these I find most important).
This poses an interesting question: is this crashing due to "weakness" in processing power of the GPU cores, or to game's inability to use more than 8 GB of VRAM? (I set it to ignore limits, but according to iStatMenus monitoring, at least 3/4 of my 64 GBs of RAM remain unused.)

Yah thats interesting. Ive been noticing more frequent crashing too. Like what you said before, graphical glitches would occur after as the game freezes and crashes. I more sure what kinda of graphic glitch you're experiencing but I experience the glitch where the lighting in the game environment turns black and then freezes. Im on macOS 12.3 playing on a 10 core CPU 24 core GPU 32 GB ram. This reply is probably not helpful to you but could be useful or interesting that other people are experiencing the same thing.
