'...game is fitted with a hand-grenade engine that upon startup,
explodes before achieving idle....'
The game installs correctly into it's own bottle using the win98
bottle profile, but fails to run. I couldn't detect that the cd
check was doing anything, so a no-cd patch may be in order here.
(unsure, the ones I tried resulted in the same no go behavior)
Reading the game's docs, there's some waffle about the main executeable
doing a video hardware check on startup, and subsequently creating a
file 'cards.txt' in the game $installdir which is used as the video
.ini file -- this file is not being created, so I'm going to guess this
initial hardware check is the first sign of con-rod failure. The docs
do not clearly state if the hardware check is bypassed if a valid 'cards.txt'
file is found...I'll probably have to move to a vm or real win32 box to
create such a file and check (no example is given worst luck)
As a footnote, this game shipped with directx7 and I have been having
'not much joy' with titles from around this era, with later builds of
wine...YMMV. As time permits, I'll crosscheck it against stable wine (1.0.1)
and see what pans out there...
