Installing on Mac under crossover 10.0.X

Don gave some excellent advice in the 9.2 thread (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6072;forum=1;msg=98119) but I am not getting any further under 10.0.1 than I was under 9.2.

Some things I am doing differently:

  1. I am installing into a fresh bottle.
  2. I am installing the Mono package. (I've tried Mono alone and both the Mono and .net package)

The major difference between what I am trying is the advice from the WineDB forum (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19515&a
mp;iTestingId=52431) has steps using steam to install the application. I am trying to install using the full windows installer (copied from my windows machine.

So far I can get the main screen for the game patcher to display but that is as far as I can get. The game will not patch - so far. I am open to advice on getting the game up and running.

Hi,

...ah, I should describe app_id=7558 a bit better (although it's tips&tricks page does a little). You have to think of app_id=7558 as being akin to a 'programmable directx runtime installer' ; primarily speaking it's included in C4 (with a c4p/tie profile) as a means for other c4p/tie creators to use in -their- install profiles ; telling dxwebsetup what part(s) of the directx runtimes to install (above and beyond what it believes is needed), should ideally be part of an app's <preinstallregistry> section. If that action is not taken...ie; you just install app_id=7558 from c4p/tie or cxinstaller builtin ... it will only install MDX and a few other dlls, but not, in this case, d3dx10_39.dll which apparently GA needs? To get that specific dll installed (using app_id=7558), you first have to delete the link that already exists in <bottlename>/drive_c/windows/system32/ (there's no actual file, it's just a wine placeholder), and >then< install app_id=7558 ; it will scan the same directory, see the dll isn't there, and download/install it for you. You can do this for as many directx dlls as you need.

Cheers!

some people on the wine forums had some success:

i really wish I had the time to get this game working :( I've had it for a while, but since i basically jumped off of windows completely, I havnt been able to play.

Any recent breakthroughs in getting this game functioning in CXG10?

Okay, so I managed to test it myself and I got it to successfully launch. I can get to the login screen, login, select or create a character, but the game remains at a loading screen indefinitely (or at least to the furthest stretches of my patience). I vaguely remember having a similar issue on a Windows PC, so I'm going to try and tinker with some settings in hopes of getting it running.

This is farther along than I have been able to get!

Are you using the same install instructions linked in the WineDB? Are you using the Steam installer?

Shane

I used the Steam installer. And yes, more or less followed instructions from WineHQ and some various tips from this forum. That involved: 1) Installing the prereqs (PhysX, .NET 3.0, Visual C++ 2005) 2) As per Don's suggestion, delete the placeholder d3dx10_39.dll that is in your C:\Windows\System32 directory, 3) run DirectX web installer, which will notice the missing dll and download the proper one for you. 4) Activate the prereqs_on file in your registry so that Steam doesn't try and install them itself. I did not bother to install mono.

Where are you getting stuck at? Unfortunately, because I'm a lazy bum and not good about maintaining my bottles, it's not a clean Global Agenda bottle--I also have some things installed in the bottle to make Champs Online run. It is possible that one of these things may be a role in my success. The best I can do is try to retrace my steps in a new bottle and see if I get the same result.

I am trying to install without using the steam installer although if you are getting close to success I might just install using steam after all.
