Hi,
Yeah....I have to really question the sanity of this app being in C4 at all
tbh...ie; there's a Mac port available too...see;
http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
Not that it >hurts< any having this app entry, but it does seem a bit redundant
overall -- I might seek some Ninja Enlightenment in this regard....thanks for
posting tho' - I was totally unaware this entry existed until you did 8)
Cheers!
"I have to really question the sanity of this app being in C4 at all "
this applies to quite a lot of stuff, actually.
considering that CX is supposed to be for 'porting M$ s/w" out of the Windows arena.
Indeed...but technically speaking, some of these cross-platform projects do have a 'valid'
reason for being in C4 (I've had this debate with our Beloved Ninjas before 8)...a typical
couple of examples would be.. 1> when the windows port of the same project 'leads the way'
and is better maintained/up-to-date than the other OS ports of the project or 2> when changes
or upgrades within an OS version renders that OS' port of such projects less appealing or
incapable of running on the OS anyhow. It's also useful to have some of these around in C4
(and there are numerous titles so disposed) wherein you can directly cross reference how the
progress of crossover/wine is going...ie; compare the native OS port against the win32 port
using crossover/wine (i have a few titles I do this with every new crossover release)..so it
is in some instances a very valid notion...
...what worries me a little, is the whole 'reinventing the wheel' thang...ie; should the
crossover/wine devs really worry about diverting development time to fix the behavior of
a win32 app in crossover/wine, when another developer has already fixed that issue in the
OS native port of that app? Stuff like that...
Still, our Redoubtable Ninjas are very used to me questioning the sanity of C4 every other
day (and appreciate same 8) so I've already posted a sanity check ticket wrt this entry to
see what they think of this being in C4....oh, and CX/wine is -really- all about reimplementing
the windows API so that win32 native apps run directly ontop of non-win32 OS' ....not porting
the apps themselves perse 8)
Cheers!
